View Full Version : What to do with the mirrors?
hubb May 12th, 06, 07:04 PM I'm getting ready to replace the cheesy after market mirrors I have on my 67. My problem is, I have the remote mirror on the drivers side and when I replace both mirrors. From what i have seen the remote mirror doesn't look the same as the passenger side mirror. I want both to look the same, should I just get the same mirrors, round w/bowtie, and forget about the remote?
importkiller69ss May 12th, 06, 07:52 PM if you want get some bullit mirror from a later model car...look rally sweet paint them body color and they have the remote so it would be the same...i will be doing them on my car when i repaint it
bertfam May 12th, 06, 08:23 PM Glenn,
If you replace the remote mirror with a non-remote, you'll have a big hole in the door panel to contend with!
:(
The original 67 Camaro remote mirror was only offered on the drivers side of the car, with a non-remote mirror being a dealer installed accessory for the passengers side of the car. You are correct in that they don't look the same, but that's just the way it was.
By the way, the "Bowtie" mirror wasn't installed on the 67 Camaro. This was an early 63 Corvette mirror used up to (approx) VIN number 112331. It was also used on 63-65 Full Sized cars, 63-65 Chevy II's (Nova's), 62-65 Corvair's and 64-early 66 Chevelle's, that were ordered with the "ZO1" (Comfort and Convenience Option Group).

hubb May 12th, 06, 10:06 PM I have those same ones on my car! I can't open my wing window fully. I like the crome you see as your cruising also. I haven't looked looked at 2nd gen camaros. but will they work with 1st gen wings?
importkiller69ss May 12th, 06, 11:10 PM humm i am not sure sinc ei have a 69..but that is a good question
prostreet69camaro May 13th, 06, 06:31 AM I have a 69 and use the 70 to 81 camaro / firebird mirrors. The drivers side is remote. They work fine for me. You have to be careful when you mount them on a 69 because of the curved part on the top of the door. I really dont know how they fit on a 67 / 68 camaro. Classic Industries sell repo mirrors and GM still has them.
Hawaiian Turbo May 13th, 06, 07:46 AM Installed the repos from Classic, and I can't seem to get the pass. side adjusted enough down to see the side of the car. It looks alright, but doesn't funtion fully. Those Chevelle ones look awesome though.
hubb May 13th, 06, 02:30 PM Thanks for the input. Does anyone know if the round '67 mirrors are the only ones that will allow you to open your wing window fully. I like the look of the chrome round.
19HoosierDaddies67 May 13th, 06, 06:46 PM So, my 67 should not have a bowtie on the drivers side mirror? Should it just be round and chrome?

That's correct. Although there were several pre-production publicity photos taken with the bowtie mirror (like the one I've attached), it never actually made it into production.
Here's the 1967 Camaro Dealer Brochure showing the Bowtie Mirror:

And here's an actual Indy 500 track photo showing the correct mirror. Also note in the picture the number "82" on the vent window. This is Track car number 82. By the way, you can also see the trophy if you look through the windshield!
