The car has sat for years(17 !!!) and the interior vinyl is loaded with mildew stains and odor. Generally the interior is intact. It is yellow so replacement parts have been difficult to find. Any suggestions on cleaning and de odorizing?
Thanks

Best thing I've found for the mildew and musty smell is this: Any time it's a sunny, dry (low humidity) day, roll down all the windows and let the car sit in the sun as long as possible. Do this over a long period of time and it will help a lot. Fabeeze helps initially too. I've also used Lysol spray which helps too. Spray it on a washcloth and scrub the seats, door panels, and headliner. It will kill mold, mildew and bacteria which contributes to the bad smell. Just be careful not to get it on painted surfaces. Rinse often in a bucket of clean water. I sprayed Lysol on the carpet too. Then I removed all the seats and sprayed them underneath. Let the seats sit in the sun for several hours (bottom side up). Basicly a combination of time and elbow grease will get rid of or at least minimize the smell. Good luck!

I have had good luck cleaning old mildewed vinyl with Mr Clean magic eraser. They are cheap, so give them a try. Then use Maguires vinyl restorer to bring the shine back up. I guess the Fabreeze will help the smell after you clean the interior.

take out the seats and give em a washing with TSP.
then let em air dry in the sun for a day or two.
(dont use any bleach products )

1st lets assume ithe upholtery is baddlydirty and mould
mix up hot water and laundry detergent powder, out of the sun...
liberally wash down, not letting dry, and scrub with a dishwasher brush.
Again not letting dry, use the water blaster to clean out the seams etc...dont get too close thu
Put out into the sun to dry.
Now u have to get the oils back into the vynal.
Use pledge or mr sheen furnature polish, liberally, dont let dry and clean wipe buff back up...will take 2 or 3 applications.
All my panels/seats (except dash panel) are orginal and in top condition. A few yrs ago I sent the car away for a bit of work..didnt have time to do myself...it came back with rats nests...a bloody mess...didnt pay the guy, told him to sue me.
DONT use armorall type products on your vinyl...they have solvents that over time remove the solvents FROM the vinyl, and a quick fix, instant polish. Eventually the vinyl over a few yrs will dry out and crack and seams will pull upen.
Use Pledge type furnature products to clean and polish.
This has been tested and proved good for over 30 yrs now on my camaro thats used as a daily driver.
I was an industrial Chemist by trade may years ago...primarily in cleaners and polishes.

Be careful with TSP......keep it on the light side when you mix it. (potent stuff)
I used a real thin mix of Krud Kutter and wiped everything down a few times and let it air dry outside. Seems to have done well.
