I just bought a used 1969 camaro console off ebay,it is black and I want to paint it blue,is there any special steps to take or just scuff it with a scotchbrite pad and paint?Where is the best place to buy dark blue paint for plastic to match my interior?

Try Yearone, they should have some interior plastic laquer paint for your console....use a scotchbrite pad and a little TSP...(worked for me) spray an adhesion promoter first like Sem #38363 sand free, http://www.perfectfit.com/product.asp?Product_Id=154519&d_Id=15342&l1=15979&l2=15342 and then several light coats of color...good luck...Mike:D

I would also recommend using Plastic Prep (SEM # 38353). This will get all of the Armor All etc of that will ruin the adhesion. Basically gets rid of any silicone based coatings. I also recommend the SEM sand free mentioned above that you spray one before the color coat, and I even think you spray the color coat on before it dries. I am sure SEM makes the color blue you want. You should be able to get it at a local body shop no problem.

I use Krylon paint, its also good on plastic. You might be able to match up the color with one of their color charts and get a paint #. Also clean and lightly sand or scuff......then prime before you spray paint. I did mine with Krylon Black and it turned out great

Somewhere on here, someone suggested using Oven cleaner for removing the paint off kick panels. It may also work on a console.

I followed a post on here that recommended spraying with oven cleaner (Easy off) and putting in a garbage bag overnight...worked fine. It didn't remove the original paint completely but did remove all the paint that previous owner had painted on top. Didn't damage the plastic any.

I didn't want to sand because I didn't want to lose any of the grain.

oven cleaner works great for metal too...just dont get it on any chrome or paint you want to still be pretty
