Does anyone have any tips on installing a new gas tank? I just bought a repro tank for
my 69 and it sits too high (the filler neck is near the top of the rear tunnel instead of being centered.) It also came with a foam pad but I am unsure where this goes because
I didn't get any instructions with it.

Does anyone has any tips on how to bend the brackets for a better fit?

Thanks!

Sounds like the pad goes in between the body and the tank, (on top of the tank) it will lower & center the filler neck, and cushin any shock, from bumps in the road. I've never done it but thats the only thing that makes sence. good luck.

I also replaced the fuel tank in my 69, and I had the same problem. The filler neck inlet does seem to be a little high. I guess they made the repos that way. I had to readjust it's position by tightening the front of the straps, and loosening the rear. The pad does indeed help cushion the tank from the trunk floor, and also helps keep the tank from mashing the sending unit wire.
