So i just bought a 1996 camaro. When i use the key to open the door when it's locked, it gives me about 5-10 seconds to put the ignition into the "on" position before the alarm sounds. It also has the shock sensors..when the car is hit lightly, the horn sounds twice, and when it's hit harder it goes for the 2 minute cycle...

now i would think this is normal for a car with an alarm system. But it didn't come with a remote for keyless entry. I believe it probably should have the remote, but it wasn't included.

So my question is : Should my car have come with a remote, or do all the camaros have this feature even without the keyless entry. Because i think i could probably get the remote off of ebay for pretty reasonable, but if it doesn't necessarily have the keyless entry, i don't want to buy one to find it isn't friendly with my car.

Thanks
Troy

troy, i work at a dealership, not all camaros had keyless entry. the car has to have a certain rpo code to have keyless entry.

My 95 Trans Am didnt come with one. So I went with an after market alarm system that included Keyless entry.

The only security that came stock on my car was the theftlock code built into the radio on the chip on the key for the ignition.

My 1997 acts the same way if I do not use the remote. It is most likely a remote equipped vehicle.

The remotes can be progammed at home and the remotes cost about $30 on ebay.

If you have access to a repair manual look up where the remote received should be and look to see if it is there.

I can look up in repair manual nex week if you do not have access to one.

troy, yes your car has the keyless option AUO. part # on the remote is 16245100. you will have to have it programed at a dealership when you buy it.
good luck man!

You can also order remotes-EVEN THE FACTORY GM REMOTES-from a place in Texas called remotes unlimited. They will come pre-programmed to work with your car, or they will have instructions on how to program them to work with your car. You DO NOT have to pay the CROOKS (ALL dealerships) their exorbitant fees for something you can do yourself. Use the remote number in the post above this one when you call to order. They are going to need to know how many buttons your remote had on it when it was new. If you don't know, you might have to buy one that has the most, and then some of them may not work.

Here is the web link:
