Hey Guys,
Anyone know if there is any truth to use a specific radiator paint to promote heat transfer or is this a wise tale. I have heard something about it going on thinner so if true, does anybody know what gloss black to use on my 69'

Radiator paint is definitely different. It's a lot lower in solids content, so it goes on thinner. Far as I know, full gloss black is the color, and every can of radiator paint I have seen is gloss black.

Duplicolor makes an excellent radiator paint. You want to use a water base or lacquer based paints for proper heat transfer.

ideally... the best coolling will be a thin coat, just enough to not see thru, of matt black.
My orginal, (stored away) is gloss
Personally I think the amount of diff between matt and gloss would be minimal...
Raditor shops usually use gloss...looks better than matt as it goes out the door...The use a gun...they can control the spray...thickness.
Spray can...u cant. A $10 air brush and spraying enamel gives a nice finish even thin finish... Dave mentions laquar...yep it does, but again the diff between the to with a THIN coat is minimal.
There are 7 or 8 little air brush containers full in a spray can...u will use at least 1/2 to 3/4 of a can to get a reasonable coverage on a radiator.
If the can is broken open, contents saved, propellant boiled off...then used in a air brush...better finish, thinner paint...and doesnt chip or fall off in 5 yrs time.
Same goes for the engine.

I have POR-15 Semi Gloss on my rad. I put it on with a brush and it looks sprayed. 6 months now with no problems and looks great. Also used it on my rad support and inner fenders.

I back ordered the Eastwood radiator paint, it was well worth the wait, as I wanted my stock camaro to have the correct and quality radiator paint it deserves. It went on easy, and looks perfect and factory correct. No peeling or wear of any kind.
