My car (69 X11) is currently complete gutted and just a rolling chassis...no doors, no fenders, no interior.

I want to take the body off the frame and media blast or dip the body to remove the paint/rust. (I can't find anyone in San Antonio or Houston that will dip it)
The subframe - I am planning on blasting it and having it powder coated ( I have gotten 2 quotes of $150 to powder coat the frame).

Should I restore the subframe first and then put the body back on the frame after blasting/primer to begin replacing/patching panels (quarters, trunk and floor pans) ?? As opposed to doing all the body work/paint, etc, then restoring the subframe?

Also, I have original fenders that need small patching. Can I patch the fenders while off the car or should I install/align the fenders and then patch them? Would it be best to remove the fenders after body work and have them painted while off the car?

Sorry for the hodge podge of questions, at this point I am just trying to get a semi-detailed plan together for restoring this car. I have done a ton of reading....kind of overwhelming...cant wait to dig in!

Umm..Mr. dong,I would pull the sub-frame and put the shell up on a body dolly so if you start getting burnt out on one you can work on the other, the subframe is a nice distraction to have after many tough, frustrating hours of sheetmetal work . Do the patchwork to the fenders off the car. then put it all back together,go over it again then get it lined up the way you want it and paint it together.
There is so much info and knowledge around here that I doubt you will have a question that cannot be answered. Use the search button at the top of the page, grab a beer and start reading before you dig in to your 69. It will save you much aggrevation and money. Good luck and welcome aboard!

i would find a nice spot for the body, cause it just might be there for a little longer then you think and put the body up on something, well placed milk crates or if possible a body stand type thing, i have know idea where you can find one of those.....anything but jackstands...unless you can modify them so they wond dig into the body, or bend it.....yes it can bend if its not supported well,

now that the body is striped and out of the way, start on all the body/metal work..cause it will be there for a while...

you can strip the subframe of all components and eathor put it away for a while or start with that... i wouldnt, you dont want a nice subframe sitting around for months getting scratched and what not...

after the body is finished and ready, then do the subframe...then after you get it back, slap it all togather and do the allignment's on the body..

basically, as you can tell, we all have our oun way of doing things....

id search throgh the old threads cause there are COUNTLESS threads of GREAT information that WILL help you alot...
