a new performace shop opened recently and they are offering a new type of chrome plating at very reasonable prices.
they said it is a spay on type coating, ive seen examples and it looks good and they say it good for up to 350' f .
i was told they could not offer traditional chrome plating because of enviromental issues so this is the new standard.
have anyone had any experience with this ?
im thinking about getting my 67 steering wheel chrome redone..

They have used this process in our machine shop at work for years. The use it to build the diameter of shafts (very large diameter) back up to within tolerence if they machined it to much. I have never heard of it used for "looks" type stuff. The process that is used in our shop is a very durable finish and the are able to apply it in a very uniform but thin coat. If it looks good it should last a long time.

Spray metal arc welding? A friend did this to his headers, never saw them, but apparently worked great. I've heard of it failing in certain applications like crank journals. Never had any personal experience though.

Vacuum metalizing won't hold up to much. There is also a physical vapor deposition (PVD) method which is what Edelbrock uses on their new ?StarChrome? (can't remember the trade name) manifolds. You will lose some detail with the PVD or powder coatings.
