I just got back from the body shop, he's trying to line up the front sheet metal, nothing fits very well, and he asked if I could get some detail pictures of the area where the A-pillar, the fender, and the cowl panel meet. Also, if someone might have a pic of where the cowl induction hood and cowl panel meet, around the area of the vents in the cowl, right where the hood starts to rise up into the cowl, preferably from the back, it would be very helpful. If that makes any sense. I seem to be having a hard time trying to describle the area I'm talking about.

Here's what he's trying to fix - this is the way the last body shop left it:

have the door hinges been removed? looks like the top needs to go in more..

im pretty sure if all 8 door bolts were loosen'd up a bit it would sit nice and flush

also search for "door gap" and tons of threads will pop up

Thanks Rusty, the door itself, at least on that side, isn't really the problem. If you'll look at the way the top of the fender lines up with the A pillar, there's nearly an inch of gap, at least 3/4. This is with nearly an inch of shims between the firewall and the fender. This pic is old, he's got the gap down quite a bit, and now only has a couple of shims between the fender and the firewall. I think he's looking for a pic of how the chrome trim over the cowl and fender and the A-pillar meet. Now the door may also be a problem, it certainly is on the passenger side, where he'll likely have to remove the skin and re-align (the skin appears to be misaligned on the frame), but in this pic I think it's just the angle of the pic that's making it look like that. He didn't mention the door alignment being an issue on that side, at least.

You need to put the lower windsheild trim on to really see where the fenders and cowl are supposed to line up.

I took the trim out to him this morning. It definitely would be impossible to line it up properly without that trim. I also bought a new windshield so he'll have that to use as well. He still wanted a reference pic, although maybe he won't need one now that he's got the trim to use. If anyone's got a pic they could send me, it would be much appreciated!

If thats a repro fender the top corner needs to be bent up. We had to do it to mine as I ran into the exact same problem. the first chance I get I'm going to find an orig. rust free fender and replace it. The body gaps on the front end all had to be "adjusted" to acomidate the repro piece. The car lined up great before the new fender, but we could only manage to get it somewhat decent to the trained eye after. Actually it's one thing on the car that bugs the crap outta me.
p.s. I brought the seats home tonight, still gotta get the quote.

Thanks Dave - the fenders are both GM, bought several years ago from a GM dealership, and came with GM stickers. They do look like they need to be bent up at the corners, very (suspiciously?) similar to the reproduction ones. All the sheet metal on the front of my camaro is supposed to be GM with the exception of the Goodmark hood, but the way it all fits together really makes me wonder....
