Trying to remove the multileafs off the 69 and am having some troubles. I got two of the three bolts off of the front eye bracket and the last one just won't let go. I stuck a screwdriver under the washer and tried to pry and twist and that did not either. What do those things bolt into? Whatever it is I don't think its supposed to spin with the nut. Any suggestions?

Do a search, but I believe you are going to have to make a hole in you floor under neath the back seat to get access to the nut. This is a common problem.

i wasnt about to cut a hole in my car....i put the car on the ground so all the weight was on teh springs...put a jack stand under the leafs so they cant fall out.......get a big pry bar and jam it in there to pry down on those bolts while you or someone else uses a wrench..better if you have an ait wrench and get them out like that...worked for me and all of mine were liek this

your going to have to cut o hole on the top of the floor side,

cause even if you get the nut off, you wont be able to torque down the new one...

EEEK, calkm down kids, lets not be cutting no holes. I bought a car with 6 of em, and don't like it one lil bit.

Do a search for J nut or J-nut and you will find.

They are nuts welded to lil clips that hold them in place, and the clips broke. Happens all the time. Drill them out, straight up thru the bolt heads so the heads fall off. Then you can get the spring and bracket off, then all you gotta do is fish whats left of it out. And get new ones, of course. Replace all 6.

liek jim said dont cut...i got all my new j clips that hotchkis sent me on there after i got all the old crap off...it is a pain but it sure beats ripping the interior out to cut a hole that will always be seen

Ha ha well that does sound alot better. So your saying just drill them out and grab some new j nuts? Is this something that i can get from the hardware store or do i have to order it?

Thanks alot guys,
David

I had to use my trusty cheap $10 or $15 HFT 4.5" angle grinder to grind all six heads of mine off!

Worked like a charm!! BUT watch your eyes!!

And I bought the heavy sheet steel ones with the punched and then roll threaded holes Very good clip-nuts, imho..

I think from either D&R or NPD, I always forget??

AND I sure wouldn't go back with stock ones!!!

Get yourself a flea market 9/16 box end wrench.
Measure from the slot to the nut.
Use a propane/butane torch and heat the wrench at measurement.
Bend wrench 90* when cherry red.
Cool to room temperature.

Now you have a wrench to loosen the spinning nut.

Use antiseize compound on the new hardware, you'll appreciate it later in life.

Well alright Thanks folks! For a while there I thought it was gonna be another month before I could get these darn leafs off. I appreciate all the advice.

Should be interesting, it always seems to be with me :D

David - I just saw this thread so sorry for the late entry. I used my angle grinder to take the bolt heads off like pdq67. Once I got the bracket off, I could not get what was left of the nut and bolt out of the slot. So, I flipped over the nut so the other end of the bolt came through the hole and cut it off with my angle grinder. I was then able to slide what remained of the nut and bolt out of the slot.

Get new J nuts and bolts and you are all set.

Does anyone know wear to get the better clip nuts? I used stock and reuined a couple putting them in. I would like to change all of them when I get a chance to re-lube the solid bushings in my front spring eyes.

Use plenty of antiseize, you'll appreciate it later in life.

The clips on the market are the best it will ever be until somebody invents a better mousetrap.

If I were taking them in & out, I'd just drill 1 inch hole from the back seat and use regular hardware. This is what I did to a 67 I had.

In my experience, Hotchkis has better j-clips than the after market catalogs. I have broken several new j-clips from the Camaro parts companies but the Hotchkis ones are solid.

Hey no one said how hard it is to get the bolt at the top of the spring shackle loose. But a Dremel tool worked great on the front spring hanger bolts.LOL
