Ok...I got the car off jack stands, 396 4 speed intalled, installed the front sheetmetal. The height of the front wheelweel is 29" from centerline of wheel opening to the floor. It just looks wrong! I haven't torque the radiator support to the subframe. What I'm I doing wrong?

Make sure the springs are properly in their seats top and bottom.
Tighten the control arm inner pivot bolts with the cars weight resting on it's wheels, not up in the air (assuming you have stock rubber bushings.
Install all the parts on the car including filling the cooling system, etc.
Let the car sit for a week to settle.
Roll the car back and forth to remove friction bind from the tires, it's good if you do this a couple of times during the week it is sitting.
Then check ride height. If toe in isn't set yet, there can be some jacking when you roll the car in the direction of toe-in, and lowering when you roll it in the direction of toe-out.

David,
Thanks for your valued input. When I rebuilt the front suspension I left all the control arm bolts loose trying to avoid this problem. I will let it sit for a while before I do any final torquing. I suspect I have some of the same problems with 5 leaf rear springs that is being discussed in another post. The body just sits to high, but there is not gas tank, or interior. I guess I will figure this out later as I work along.
Again Thanks
