HOw can i clean up the tacky plastic box on my firewall from the vintage air?? I was thinking of putting a blower motor housing over it. I would really like to flatten it though and put metal there.

I am not sure if I am doing the car or the computer thing correctly. I do not have an answer, just the same question. I have replaced the 327 (in what is mostly a 68 Camaro) with a 396. With the high rise manifold as well as headers, the original air box (or whatever the large ugly thing on the firewall is called) had to be mofified to just barely fit which made it all the more ugly. I have heard that there is a company which makes equipment to replace it that fits in the space under the dash where the glove box is normaly. Aparrently this cleans up the firewall and fixes the space problem.
I am wondering if this is true and if so, where can I get the parts? I would appreciate any information or even a better plan that some one may have. Thanks

Mike i have that but it comes with an ugly plastic box that is like 6 by 6 on the firewall that sticks out and the flat part is like 6 by 8 or something inches. I want to clean that up.

Vintage Air has a system that fits under the dash...the front runner is really sweet on the front of the engine block too! Pics of them on my car are on the cardomain site

The protusion on the plastic firewall piece is to allow you a small amount of access to the heater hose and AC connections for tightening/checking. Without that protusion you will have to unbolt the evaporator box to check those at times. It also could be a very tight fit as well.

I think that this firewall plate may be what you're looking for.http://www.detroitspeed.com/FirewallFill10.html I've seen some cars that had the a/c hoses run between the fender and inner fender thru the blower motor hole to really clean things up under the hood.
