View Full Version : Not a good report from doctor....

Well, the discouraging reports continue. I have been sitting on my butt since March. Unable to work on the car at all, let alone do much else. Saw the surgeon this morning and the news is not good. I will be having a second surgery this friday to remove scar tissue and manipulate my shoulder. Basicly, he is going to force the blasted thing to move. Guess that eliminates any chance of having the car on the road this year. I tried last night to change my steering wheel. No such luck. Couldn't even use a ratchet and socket.

Will post an update after surgery as soon as I am able.

Thoughts and prayers are with you...I have a couple of loose wings (too many skiing crashes) that the docs want to cut on but so far I'm holding out...
Good Luck!

I had the same minipulation proceedure. I tore my should up about two years ago. 3 months into therapy I had the minipulation due to scar tissue and lack of motion. I had full motion afterwards. Pain was minimal, therapy hurt less after the minipulation than before. Strength came back quickly. Within 12 weeks I was bench pressing 225 lbs for 3 set of eight and I was paddling in a cardboard boat race similar to dragon boat racing. I wouldn't think they would have to do anymore than orthoscopic surgery for the surgery part, but I could be wrong. If that's what they due you should heal quick from that. I know what it's like. I have had knee surgery and shoulder surgery in the last two years. I'm also off work right now due to a thyroidectomy. I had a baseball size tumor removed with the thyroid. It turned out to be cancer. All it going well for me. For you, keep your head up and try not to get too discouraged. You'll be working on your car soon after the surgery/minipulation.

I know how you feel. I'm speaking from experience. Just a word of advice, make sure you see a GOOD physical therapist. I've had shoulder problems over the years and if you follow their advice it can make you're life almost normal again. Hang in there, you will heal.

MB, you have fallen into a rut and a routine and you need a change... You need to get out of the house ... maybe visit the kids school, or window shop and lunch with a girlfriend, maybe even a ball game or soccer match where you can just watch without an emotional tie ... You'll probably enjoy a little mental freedom and a little stress avoidance... Right now I suspect that you frequently feel that you have a responsibility or a challenge to address ...You need to exhale ... At least you know you have some supported and caring friends here ... We wish you well ... Good spirits will certainly help your healing ... Make sure your hubby knows how you feel ... He can help. Don't try to be strong and keep it from him ... There is no substitute for peace of mind ... Support from a loved one is always comforting ...

I hope you get better. Right now though you can imagine what the car will look like when its done and do all in your power to let your body heal. I guarantee when its healed you will get the car done for sure and you will be glad!

Can be painful stuff... I have had my shoulder operated on a few times. Though most would say I have a screw loose in my head it is actually in my shoulder:) I have a detached bone from a football injury and it had to be tapped and screwed down..well it has loosened up and I have to have to go in for a surgery to repair the dang thing...I remember I couldn't drive a manual trans car for about three months after the last surgery. So best of luck and just remember the sooner you get it fixed the sooner it gets better...and stick with all the physical therapy no matter how good you feel. Correct rehab is the one thing you have control of and your best insurance of never having to go through it again.

Hang in there MB.
Your wrenching days are coming agin very soon.

I can relate.
I have degenerative disk disease in three disks and am in pain 24/7.
I come home from work and wrench on the Camaro until I can't walk.
It makes my day.

Thanks guys. I will do my best to behave but I make no promises. I have been diligent about therapy and will continue to be, even after this. Just trying to figure out who's gonna cook! (grin) Hubby is dangerous in the kitchen.

Camaro Man-if this is as easy as you make it sound I will be thrilled. Keeping out of the garage when it is 75 and sunny is going to be difficult.

I may do the sock drawer thing..(NOT) It is summer, who needs socks!!

Thank you for all the encouraging words. They are greatly appreciated.

I can't speak from experiance of being injurd, but I can from being depressed. I was diagnosed with diabeties and did not know what to do with myself after that.

let it out as stdstd has said. Get up, get out, get with girlfriends or boyfriends and let your hair down a little and ask your family for support. Even though you know they are there for you it helped me to just ask anyway and get it off my chest.
