They are regarded as one of the most significant bands to have emerged from the post-punk/new wave era of the late-1970s/early-1980s, having strongly influenced bands such as Nirvana, Metallica, Ministry, Soundgarden and Korn, all of whom have at some point have cited a substantial debt of gratitude to 'The Joke'.

Rich69RS/SS May 23rd, 06, 02:56 PM I had a song like that I heard on a Clear Channel FM station that just had me stumped. It took a week of playing it in my head until slowly little bits and pieces (first name then last name) and digging through Napster before I finally got the song and artist . Name of the song was, Ah! Leah! by Donnie Iris. Somtimes it drives you nuts but it's buried in the back of your mind and slowly comes out.

Rich69RS/SS May 23rd, 06, 05:38 PM JOE YOU ARE THE MAN !! I never knew they had a video for that song. Nothing like the early 80's videos clean and simple and not all the cut away shots every 3 seconds, I am just blown away. Can you dig up any Mott the Hoople songs like "One of the Boys" from the All the Young Dudes album ??
kz1000ltd May 23rd, 06, 06:07 PM Thanks Joe, that brought back some memories, I LOVED IT! :beers:
HwyStarJoe May 23rd, 06, 07:36 PM I never knew there was a video for Ah Leah either!

MrDanB May 23rd, 06, 09:43 PM You guys are phat and syck! (I think that's a good thing? ) I'm all stuck in the 70's and 80's too. I knew I had become an adult when I was cruisin the Camaro a while back and it dawned on me that all these kids these days are wearing size 52 pants with a belt to cinch 'em up. Are they expecting to get real big one day? :) I always liked a little bit harder rock like UFO's-rock bottom or Montrose-get on that bad motorscooter and ride ;)
Dano:beers:

68rs406 May 23rd, 06, 09:56 PM I remember killing joke from back in the day.
But holy crap, I never made the connection but for any of you that are familiar with NIRVANA, that songs main riff is so similar to the song "come as you are" its not even funny. Amazing how so many bands music sounds similar to the bands that came before them.
Dan, where are these kids that wear belts with those pants? Most that I see walk around holding them up with about half thier crack showing :clonk: . Thats got to be the most ridicules style I've ever seen. I also never thought I'd live to see bell bottoms again .......

drdave69 May 24th, 06, 06:29 AM Thanks for the video links. I listened to them both (Killing Joke and Donnie Iris) and LOVE it. I am stuck in the '80s and will never change. I wish we had a video channel like MTV of early eighties. I can remember staying up until 3:00 am watching MTV back then.
Rich69RS/SS May 24th, 06, 07:58 AM I like this song but it's not 80's but still has that clean sound and again I never knew there was a video for it , http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BZYgB1Y1Fyo
another one from the 80's http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_SQFZNes0Ro
HwyStarJoe May 24th, 06, 08:35 AM VH1 Classic (cable channel) plays all those videos. They have several classics shows, and concerts from the 60's, 70's, 80's.
I sat and watched an hour and half worth of those videos last night! Just searched on '80's'
