: 68 plain jane question
69z28freak May 23rd, 06, 06:10 PM As if you haven't heard this question 1000 times. I have a plain jane 68 car that I bought from the original owner 20 years ago. When I bought the original motor was gone. I have the protecto plate and all of the paperwork and history since new. Every oil change etc. The car is sort of unique as it is a six cylindar car with a centre console. I guess my question is, what is my best option for a restoration? I was thinking of either selling it, which I have no idea what it is worth, or I was thinking of building a Z28 clone. In a perfect world I would sell it and buy a 69 Z28, but with the cost of the 69 these days I don't know how real that goal may be. I could probably restore my car for between 20 and 30 thousand and have a real sweet ride. Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I am on the fence on this one. If you were me what would you do?
BERRY251 May 23rd, 06, 06:15 PM Keep it and build it to what you really want and can live with....definetely do not sell!!
TOM BARKLEY May 23rd, 06, 10:09 PM Keep it! Build it the way you want it and drive it and enjoy it. If you have a Z28 museum car you won't be able to enjoy it.
69z28freak May 23rd, 06, 10:53 PM I agree with you guys. Either way I should have a driver. I think that we would all love to have a perfect car for the sake of having a show room ride, but like you have so brilliantly pointed out, what is the point of marrying Pamela Anderson and never seeing her in person. Now I just need to decide between working on my 68 or selling it and working on a 69. Any advise?
gmranch May 24th, 06, 01:07 AM The plan for my 68 plain jane (215 hp 327) is as follows: 400 cid injected sbc, Tremic 5 speed, 8.5" posi rear end, improved suspension, subframe connectors, 4" cowl hood(makes room for the hilborn stacks), and pursue the Penske look.
69cama May 24th, 06, 11:47 AM If you really want a 69, and can't build two cars then sell it and buy a 69. Don't build a car that you don't want.
JimM May 24th, 06, 12:49 PM 68's r better
firstgenaddict May 24th, 06, 01:17 PM If you want to sell it and it has a black standard interior there is someone looking for a 68 Coupe with black standard interior. What he really needs is the complete black interior (I believe) PM me and I will give you his number.
milehigh67 May 24th, 06, 02:52 PM I say keep it and build it if you want to drive it. I have a 67 former 6 cyl car as well and this is what it looks like today with a 383 stroker in it. Much more fun that a 6 cyl car or a z-28 car that you are afraid to drive because it cost you more than your house.

69z28freak May 24th, 06, 07:57 PM Awesome advise. I love the 67 ragtop. Looks really good. How much do you think it is worth? I love the comment 68 are better. Makes me ask the question why. Can't wait to hear the answer, as most people think the 69 is so special. My 68 does have a mint all original black standard interior with a centre console and rear veiw defogger. Also has a black vinyl roof. If I knew how to post a picture I would. I just joined a few days ago and it took me a while to figure out how to posy something.
69z28freak May 24th, 06, 08:14 PM Hey Jim m, what post should I use for my questions? I was not sure so I posted a few. I'll get the hang of this yet. Let me know which one and I'll stick to just one on this subject.
fishin4info May 25th, 06, 10:56 AM I say stick with the car you have. If you have had it for 20 years it must mean something to you. I have had my plane jane 68 for 13 yrs. and plan on fixing it up. It was my first car and I plan on keeping it for a long time.
milehigh67 May 25th, 06, 11:13 AM My 67 is not worth anything because its not for sale. Well, I shouldn't say that. If somebody offered me an obscene amount for it I would consider but it would have to be a really profane offer. :)
jr68 May 25th, 06, 11:24 AM milehigh,
yours is the absolute nicest 67 I've seen.
jr68 May 25th, 06, 11:26 AM 68's r better
...and Jim is right , 68s are better.
69z28freak May 25th, 06, 10:55 PM I like 68's too. Why do you guys think they are better? Just curious.
Ghostbuster May 26th, 06, 01:27 AM I have a Plain Jane numbers matching '68 Convertible.
My 327 / Powerglide will be boxed up after my 383ci - 700R4 arrive.
My neighbor has a Plain Jane numbers matching '67 Convertible.
327 / Powerglide and is very happy with his stock 2 barrel Rochester.
I want to post a video of my '68 Convertible,
next to Milehigh67, as the Bandimere tree turns green..
What do you want to do..?
Everyone knows that 1968 Camaros are the best of all years,
(well, to those of us who own '68's..)
I prefer the '68 because of the overall style..
The '68 Camaro defines a musclecar.
'67 had that funny wing and flat hips..
'69 had gills and had big shoulders..
..everyone is different and everyone is right..
yea, even the Yenko and COPO guys are right.. :beers:
jr68 May 26th, 06, 05:03 AM I like 68's too. Why do you guys think they are better? Just curious.
I would say ;
Lack of wing windows
More appealing grill in both SS and RS
Lack of sharp ridge on the sides of fenders and door
just a cleaner overall muscle car look
sorry 67 and 69 guys :o
