I am restoring a 69RS. I have replaced the front sheet metal with aftermarket fenders and a cowl hood. I all body lines matching after months of beating and banging. Now I can't get the hood to close and line up correctly with stock springs. I've tried the chrome ones used for fiberglass but they ar too weak to hold the hood up. Should I use a small helper sprin with the chrome ones or does anyone have an suggestions? Thanks for your help.

I have a 4 in. fiberglass hood on my 69. I use springs for a hobby horse(plastic horse kid toy) I got them from HomeDepot. They are exactly the right tension. I tried the ones that came with the hood and couldn't get it to lay right either.

The springs shouldn't effect how the hood lines up. Loosen up the fender mount bolts (for the hinges) and they will pivit up and down in the front...

Thanks for your input. Since I posted this message, I visited Lowes and found a set of springs with the correct length and less tension. I figured I would give these a try.

I had the hinge bolts loose and the fender bolts loose. The hood would lay down correctly in the front and back, but was bowing up in the middle with the stock springs. When I removed the springs, the hood layed right down where it was supposed to. That's when I tried the weaker chrome springs. They allowed the hood to close properly and line up, but they were not strong enough to hold the hood up. This is not an NOM camaro. Just cruiser, so I'm not too concerned about correct springs. Thank you for your input and suggestions. Have a nice day
