Does the stock security system disable the ignition under certain circumstances? and why???

I just recently found out my car had keyless entry stock, so i went on ebay and got a remote transmitter and was pleased to find it works very well. (I just got the remote yesterday). Today i was getting ready to leave and i unlocked the car remotely and hopped in. I put the key in the ignition and started it...fine..but after about 2 seconds the car shut off. I was in wonder at this point, but i tried again...same result. I was begining to think something was wrong when i tried again and the same thing happened. I noticed the security light was on, so i locked and unlocked the car again and tried the ignition, and when i tried to start it, nothing happened at all, the radio was on and the lights and such but start didnt' do anything. I looked in the owners manual for about a minute trying to find it when i noticed the security light went off and i started it up and it worked just fine.

I drove to the gas station and payed inside, came back to my car and the same thing happened (i hadn't locked the car in between this) and after a few minutes the light went off and the car started and ran fine.

i then went to another store and still using the keyless entry locked and unlocked the car and when i came back the car started first try.

I don't know if there is something i should be doing different or what, but i have no idea why the security system is disabling the ignition..

any help??

Thanks,
Troy

Are you familiar with the Vatts system? This was the security system used in GM cars at that time. Basically, there is a resistor chip in the ignition key that matches your cars computer. Without the correct key in the ignition the car will not run. (for example, someone has popped the tumbler and is starting the car with a screwdriver.).....Do a search for VATTS and PassKey....hours of reading.

Anyway, it sounds like the ignition key and/or the ignition lock cylinder are wearing out and not completing the circuit, or making intermittant contact at best. When there has been an attempt to start the car without the right key, it will disable the starter for a few minutes. Later the car will start, but only run if the vatts circuit is completed.

Try a new key. A hardware store that has the key reader can cut the correct key for about $20. I had my spare cut at Ace. GM dealers can do this also but they get a little more.

OR, the system can easily be defeated by installing the correct resistor in the circuit. You will learn how to do this in the search results..........Jb
