: Comp. Eng. rear frame rails?

Anyone have Competition Engineering rear frame rails in a 1st gen? I need to replace my rear rails and these look alot stronger than the stock, sheet metal units. How do you like them?

Jegs catalogue (p.144, part#247-3031) says they fit stock floor contours with "minimal fabrication." I've heard THAT tune before! Anyone know what they mean by minimal fabrication?

Thanks,
Chad

I have ordered some with weld in subframe connectors, but I haven't received them yet. So I can't tell you how they are to install... However I say go for it...

Hey Black. When you get 'em in will you let me know what modifications were involved? I'd appreciate it.

Thanks,
Chad

this subject sparked some interest on these rails for me so i emailed CE and here is there reply:Answer:

It takes more than minimal mods. The C 3031 frame rails move in 3.5
inches from the stock location. You also have to channel the floor and the
trunk all the way back to the bumper.

Thanks for the info, sad67. Sounds like a pain. How hard would that be to do?

I really dont know for sure that was a copy of there reply to me, but it sounds like a mild backhalfing of the car, i was interested until i found this out. Iam trying to keep the body basically all stock on mine, Just purchased complete new trunk floor, drop offs and extensions and i dont wont to cut those up i guess for me the stock rails and frame ties will be fine.If your going for the pro street look it sounds like an affordable approach. If anybody has done this how much cutting is involved?
