After reading some of the other posts I am not sure if I want to carry out my original plan of removing my old top and painting the roof. I know it's a lot of work to prep the roof for paint but it so much easier to maintain. Has anyone tried a replacement vinyl top? Was the quality up to snuff? What precations can be taken to prevent moisture from finding its way under the top? I appreciate your feedback.

I had my top replaced and I know he used some sort of sealer, but
I do not not what is was. Also I think it is easier to maintain a vinyl top. There is a lot less paint to wax and polish. Just my opinion Erik.

I used a top from Ricks,the installer thought it was good quality.I used Por 15 on my roof,then painted it body color.I,m still paranoid of rust though.BTW,I bought my car without a vinyl roof,someone in the past had removed it.I like the looks of the vinyl,much classier than a painted roof.Also,there are not many vinyl roof camaros left,most have either been convertet to a standard roof,or they all are rusted.

dale68z - The POR seems like a good idea! As far as the look of a vinyl roof is concerned I agree with you 100%. My car is blue metallic with white Z/28 stripes and a white vinyl roof. Looks hot but the roof has seen better days. How did you prep the roof for application of POR 15? Did you sand down to bare metal or just remove scaling rust?

I had to replace my roof,mine had a 1/8" of fiberglass hiding all the rust.The new one,I removed all the paint.Then I lightly ground the whole roof with 36 grit.I didn't get crazy with the grinder,just lightly ran over the roof.Just enough to leave some swirl marks.Then I used the marine clean.I slathered the silver POR all over the roof,3 coats.I was real paranoid,and threw all I had into it,so hopefully it won't rust!I even POR'd the underside of the roof!
