My cat can pass gas, but I don't think he can pass smog....

OBDII is the name of the onboard diagnostics for 1996 and newer cars/light trucks, it has nothing to do with the smog test save for the fact that if equiped the car must retain the OBDII PCM and related components in order to pass. As for where you can buy a cat, most any exhaust shop will either beable to sell you a highflow cat or order one for you, you just need to get the right type of cat for your car.

Don't know of a cat that's legal on Obd II cars in California other than the factory unit.

Random has nothing legal in California on OBD II. Says it on their website. OBD1 is legal but that doesn't help him.

I used to be a smog tech in CA so I know just a wee bit about this. When you take your car to get tested they are only going to look to make sure that the car has a cat in place, they are not going to look at numbers or anything else on the cat, now here is where it gets tricky. You have to buy a cat that works well enough so that when the cars computer runs the test on the cat it will pass it...that's the hard part. A $50 catalytic converter is not going to do this. You can find a whole bunch of ideas that I am not going to tell you at http://forum.camarov6.com
