View Full Version : Door Jamb Switch

I received a set of replacement door jamb switches for the interior lights and the plunger on the new one is about a 1/2" longer than the originals. I can't possibly see how the new ones will work without binding up the door when it is closed or causing damage when the door is closed due to the length of the plunger.

Anyone have any comments?

that looks JUST like the one Ricks sent me for the pass side of my car. Glad I looked at it before I closed the door.

Send it back or throw it away.

I cleaned my old one with a wire brush. It looks good now and always worked. Might try an auto parts store that's a pretty standard item.

P.S. how bout posting that pic, the vendor, and part number in the parts review pages?

Whats suppost to happen is the "barrel" in the center ( the part above the threaded nut section) is suppost to slide into the threaded part when the door closes the first time......thus setting the correct length
With GM parts this works ... repos bend instead of sliding
Ones from my local auto parts store, worked fine

I dunno Gene, my drivers side new switch looked exactly like the original. That's the 68-69 2 connection switch for the buzzer. I went as far as screwing that thing in once, then screwed it out and tossed it in the circular file.

I am going to hold off on naming the vendor. These parts were sold as GM NOS and cost me a good penny. The vendor has agreed to take them back, no questions asked should I so desire.

I gambled and Gene was right.

Installed it, shut the door and that barrel slid in to the nut part and set the correct plunger length. Thanks Gene. :)

Jim. should I still post the info in the review section?

someone (like me) might see it and not ask again. Wonder if I threw that thing away or tossed it in a box?

I'm glad that worked for you. I've dealt with lots of odd GM things in 30 years in the bodyshop
Cole Hershey (sp) brand from your local auto parts store also will install correctly
Instead of closing the door you can tap on it with a small hammer to set the depth.... just match the length to the original
Re; drivers side 2 pin switches... i believe these are setup already to the correct depth. May have something to do with proper key buzzer operation

Don't fret it Jim. After comparing the two I was spooked about installing it. Had it not been for Gene it would have been off the land fiill Monday.

Just glad I posted and asked before jumping the gun.

The 2 pin switch I received was at the same length as the single pin. I am sending it back for a single pin as that is correct for the '67.

Just offering up some data points for future searches.

Look at the picture closely. You will see they are the same length end to end.
