: shock extensions hurting 60fts?
badbowtie68 Jun 2nd, 06, 06:07 PM Previous combo was 4.88 27.5 tire,ce traction bars with no wedge shim, aprox 1.5-2" snubber gap best 60ft 1.73.New combo 4.56 29" tires ,shims on the ce bars ,now no gap and just touching spring eye,2" shock extensions.Best 60ft now 1.83.Tried 26" tires for more gearing like before best of 1.81.Did the geomoemtry of the shock extensions raise the back too much and hurt my 60fts?I know I did too many changes at once.
Mwilson Jun 2nd, 06, 08:07 PM I think you need some gap on a street setup between the spring eye and the snubber
DOUG G Jun 3rd, 06, 06:25 AM My best before was a 1.89 and always spinning. I disconnected my swaybar at the track, lowered the air to 12psi in my McCrearys (approx. 11.5 x 27.5) and got my best 60' yet 1.760 and the tires hooked great for once :D (bent a leafspring)

meanZ Jun 3rd, 06, 08:43 AM IMO i dont think the shock extensions are hurting you..i put some on my car for increased wheel travel(im running slide a links so the body seperates from rear end instead of squatting)
i pulled a 1.70 first time out with no tuning at all....keep messing with it and youll find the lost time, and then some....:)
zdld17 Jun 3rd, 06, 05:25 PM Do you think you need shocks that set more midway in the shock tube? Are you using gas shock? How about more suspension preload,, if you bent a leaf spring , that tells me you are not loaded?
DOUG G Jun 3rd, 06, 06:17 PM I'm using slappers and they don't make the spring eye. I do pre-load, maybe not enough with new traction ?
Drag Fabricator Jun 3rd, 06, 06:53 PM Doug, if you need slapper bars that hit the spring eye, i have a set for sale. the CE J-bolt bars.
when i had slapper bars on my car, they worked alot better before putting the 2 degree shim in them, when they had a ton of gap.
I'm pretty happy with my current setup, removing the slapper bars was one of the best moves i've made in the progression of the car.
My cars hooking on a 120 degree+ track surface covered in bald spots.
badbowtie68 Jun 3rd, 06, 07:53 PM I also notice that without the shims the car seems to launch better.I only put the shims in because I thought the bars were hanging a bit low. With out the shims it had almost a 2" gap.I was reading about a 9sec car 10" tire with ce bars that 60ft 1.45 with no gap at all. They said they shimed the bars until they just touch this way the launch was instant.I think know that my car is using all the suspension up when I load the conv to 2500.Before with the gap there was some suspension to be used.
Drag Fabricator Jun 3rd, 06, 08:32 PM a 1.45 60ft in a 9 second car is less then impressive. A typical 9 second car should 60ft in the 1.30 range
DOUG G Jun 4th, 06, 06:57 AM Brian, I have the better Lakewoods (look like the CE's but w/o J-bar). I'm going to extend them for now. Also looking at the slide-a-links or Cal-tracks since I'm changing springs soon, but $$$ so may have to wait.
BarryP Jun 4th, 06, 12:09 PM We have Caltracs with Rancho 9 shocks 20 inch extended. I set them @ 7-8 depending on how good the track is. Stiff for good and soft for bad. We tried the shock extensions and had too much body separation . It kills 60 ft . With a 9 inch tire and 3600 lbs we 60 ft @ 1.34- 1.37 . My sons Camaro 355 , 8.5 comp motor runs 1.60-1.65 60 ft @ 11.87- 11.90"s . His car is at 2 deg down and mine is 3.5 deg down. He has stock stiff shocks with Caltracs and stock springs.

Drag Fabricator Jun 4th, 06, 08:45 PM Barry,
you have the A/SA 69 camaro, right?
Caltracs work great! there are a host of stockers running them very successfully.
