I have a completely stock 1974 454 engine with 86,00 miles. I want to install a new cam and go a little larger than stock. What do you think a good lift would be to give it good power and a nice sound but keep the stock valve springs. I was thinking a 396-350 hp cam or maybe a 396-375 hp cam????
thanks in advance for you input.

Probably a Comp Cams High Energy 268. This may be old tech now, others here would probably suggest another grind.

Add a bottle of GM's EOS for break-in. GM also has Cam Pre-Lube, p/n 12345501

thanks for the help , this is my first big block, I have had small blocks for 40 years. Just want to add a intake and cam and run it.
