View Full Version : Searching for 1/4 panel Deny411 Jun 8th, 06, 01:47 AM Does anyone know where I can find a 1/4 panel for a 67 conv? RatbonesXX Jun 10th, 06, 11:10 AM Has anyone used the full factory style quarters from D&R yet? POCKER Jun 10th, 06, 05:15 PM I bought both sides from them but I didn't have installed them yet. Andrew McBride Jun 10th, 06, 09:10 PM You can buy a regular 80% quarter or a regular quarter skin and trim off what you don't need. When replaing a quarter you will need to trim and massage in the panel to get correct fitment. As far as I know there aren't any covertible quarters out there, but I may be wrong. I have heard of guys trimming the coupe quarters though. Good luck. RatbonesXX Jun 11th, 06, 09:56 PM Here's a link to the ones I'm talking about-- http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/67-Camaro-Convertible-Quarter-Panel-Firebird-LH_W0QQitemZ4646368286QQcategoryZ34204QQssPageName ZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Deny411 Jun 13th, 06, 03:13 PM I just ordered a full 1/4 panel from D&R .Thanks for the info guys. RatbonesXX Jun 14th, 06, 11:42 AM Let me know how it fits, I need two. Thanks--- 67SSRSConv Jun 14th, 06, 11:56 AM The only down side I have heard with these, is that the earlier 67's have a recessed 'phone receiver' appearing indentation in the door jamb. DRClassic's quarters do not have that recess. From what I hear, they fit better than anything else and as well as a NOS one, if you could even find one......neither fitting perfectly though. Can the guys that have already received one of the quarters, confirm the smooth jamb vs recession? jet_car2000 Jun 14th, 06, 12:06 PM From the picture in there auction it looks to be smooth in the jam area when i blew the picture up, I also would like to hear from someone who has installed them. Frank POCKER Jun 14th, 06, 05:09 PM I will check the door jamb tomorrow on mines Mud Rat Jun 14th, 06, 09:47 PM I just ordered a full 1/4 panel from D&R .Thanks for the info guys. Deny I'am looking for the same for my 67 could you let me know how they work for you? I was looking @ geting mine from dynacorn. Bob Deny411 Jun 16th, 06, 07:15 PM I have not rec. mine yet, been less than a week. The problem that I had was everyone that I called had the same story, "We are out of them and our supplier is having tooling problems, we don't know when we will get them." I did give Dynacorn a try, as you know they don't sell retail just wholesale, and my local retailer held me up for a week, saying they won't answer my e-mail, and finally he said "I wait untill I get a big enough order so that they(Dynacorn) will pay for shipping." SO I gave up on him. It may be dynacorn that is having tooling problems, or may not ,I don't know. NO one will tell you who thier supplier is. My car is a driver not a show car.It was hit in the jam area by a slow moving tree. The reason I needed a full 1/4 and not just a skin. I will check the jam area when it gets here and let you guys know if the telephone is there! Deny411 Jun 21st, 06, 07:31 AM Hello, got the 1/4 panel yesterday from D&R Classic. The jam area is not the same as original .There is like a half of a telephone rec there on the bottom but not on the top.I don't know how it fits yet, I'm not going to put it on myself. This is my first time dealing with D&R,I was surprized at the way it was packed. It was a whole lot better than it needed to be. I will let you guys know how it fits when my body man gets to it. Joe Camaro Aug 8th, 06, 03:19 AM Hi Deny411: Has your bodyman started the quarter panel job yet? How is the fit? Deny411 Aug 8th, 06, 10:26 AM Joe Camaro,My body man works by himself (slow)It took me so long to find that 1/4 panel that my body man let a truck get in front of me.When I saw it I said" man I've seen better looking trucks in the junk yard."My body man said "yeah me too, aint it wonderful?" so its gonna be a while! POCKER Aug 9th, 06, 05:42 PM Thats why I only trust on my body man... MY SELF!!! As fast as I want, well, as fast as I can. 67SSRSConv Sep 23rd, 06, 09:54 PM I bought one of the quarters from D&R and was very disappointed by the incorrect jamb, not to mention it fitting like crap. I was able to splice and reweld several areas and beat others, so that it eventually fit decent enough. I cut the jamb off because it was no where near matching the other stock side. I had planned to butt weld my orig jamb and D&R qtr...and then Heartbeat City finally released the long awaited new 67 conv quarters, so i bought one. At first appearance, the metal gauge is thicker than D&R and maybe a nanometer thicker than stock?!?...definitely feels sturdier than the asian counterpart. The panel came bare, no EDP or epoxy finish. The jamb is dead on, everything is really impressive and the quality is way, way better. The other area this one surpasses D&R is the reverse curve in the wheel well. The D&R was almost flat, and this area cannot be adjusted, at least not with my skillset and tools. The only relief was knowing that it would be covered under the wheel well moldings. I will start fitting the quarter this weekend and let you know how it goes. I have to get the remaining original jamb piece off my car now and seal/address what is under there, shouldnt be anything surprising. I am stoked with the prospect of only having to spot weld the perimeter instead of that long bead just behind the jamb :) clips221 Sep 25th, 06, 03:54 PM I have a 68 that had the quarters replaced back in the 80's. They were cut out of hard top quarters and it looked good but the roll on top wasn't right. Started restoring back last summer and found an original car, made some template of the top with poster paper and fabbed them in. Looks perfect. Would have been easier if I could have found some whole quarters. The 80% quarters didn't have the top that I needed. Good luck. POCKER Sep 27th, 06, 06:16 AM Hi 67SSRSConv Have you tried the new heart beat quarter panel? I have D&R quarters and I was thinking to buy the new heart beat ones but I don’t want to spend $1890, 00 again for a same quality quarters. What do you think? If you can afford it will you go for it? Thanks David 67SSRSConv Sep 27th, 06, 09:43 AM I have fitted the Heartbeat City quarter to my car, and it is definitely going to be the best quarter out there for converts, short of finding a NOS conv one, which I could not. I saw the HBC qtrs listed with NOS in the title on Ebay...I wouldnt go quite that far, but they fit way better and are aesthetically correct (full phone receiver-like indent in jamb). The gaps are good post fitment and the metal gauge thickness is way better than the D&R's. It took me two days to get it to fit perfectly, but I am meticulous...this is my last car (blah, right). I did have to beat it around a little and splice the lower section a bit as it rolled towards the tail panel a bit too hard, and was just a bit short all the way up over the tail lights. Not painfully short, like the D&R was, and it was easily cured by splitting it in 3 spots on the lower rear section, and bringing the tail panel in maybe an 1/8" to meet the qtr around the tail lights. The middle section through the bumper, is about an eighth short, but the other original side is maybe a 16th short through there also. The body line through the front section of the qtr has a ghost body line, like lightly pressed in the wrong spot and then adjusted up 3/8" to the correct spot. My first impression was WTF! (and still is) but isnt bad enough that i cant hide it with primer. Tapping it down that whole length will surely turn it into a sack of walnuts. My only other gripe is that the door striker hole is a bit high, not sure if I will have to adjust that yet. The bumper reinforcement tray on the inside isnt there, so cut off and keep your old one or order one (not sure if these are repro'd). The quarter fits the outer wheel well nice which is freshly replaced NOS. I epoxy the backside and jamb today, body seal outer wheel well and start welding the ww and qtr today...tack welds for the whole thing...nice! Overall, this quarter is 'THE ONE' to go with considering the choices. The only thing that will beat these is NOS conv quarters (not modified coupe qtrs) and those just dont exist. I measured all over as refrence points and everything looks good. If money isnt the object, and quality is, buy the HBC quarters...your wife/wallet will hate you but the show n shines (and your bodyman) will love you! thewebb1 Sep 29th, 06, 07:30 PM Who makes the heartbeat City vert quarters? Also, I checked my parts car and noticed the phone receiver on the drivers side but only a half one on the passenger side. This car has been sitting in a field for fourteen years so it couldn't have repo quarters. Is this common? 67SSRSConv Sep 29th, 06, 08:25 PM Are you refrencing your 67 or 68 conv? I dont know about 68 conv's specifically, never had one. The HBC qtr came in a Dynacorn box, but I do not believe it to be Dynacorn. I am not sure, but HBC has been working on these for quite some time and they are stamped in the US, as are his deck lids, fenders, tail panels, etc. I dont know when asian repro's came into market, and to my knowledge all 67 conv's have the full receiver indent...maybe someone snuck your original qtr off your car and replaced it during those 14 years :) Check the thickness, the asian's are noticeably thinner, check for discrepancies between left and right where the qtr meets the car...the half receiver has been replaced...it has been bastard-ized...I think you should let me have it so I can restore it to it's full glory and let it hang out with my conv! They say conv's should be kept in pairs...they do better... :) Bgonz 69 Sep 30th, 06, 08:29 AM I cant seem to find these quarters on line ??? Whats the damage for a pair of them ??? thanks, bob 67SSRSConv Sep 30th, 06, 09:59 AM His company is on Ebay as wwwHeartBeatCitynet and his website is www.HeartBeatCity.net. I found a link on Ebay under his 'store' down at the bottom of this post, not sure if it will post as a URL, if not copy/paste into your address bar. Looks like $1890 with $195 for shipping. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NOS-1967-Camaro-Convertible-Quarter-Panels-pair_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ34204QQihZ013QQite mZ230030207189QQtcZphoto |
