I have a 350 SB that is about 300 HP. I just installed a new Edelbrock intake, 650 AVS carb, Pertonix flamethrower Distributor and flame thrower 2 coil. The problem is that it runs great, but I have a starting issue. If I drive the car and then get to where I am going a let it sit for awhile, like 30 minutes, it does not want to start. It cranks over fine, but it does not start without having to crank it for several minutes while pumping the gas every so often. Any one have any ideas on what the problem might be. The car did not have this issue with all of the stock original parts. Thanks for the help

put your old distributor back in and see if the problem goes away.

Once apon a time, I had an Accel billetproof that did exactly that.

I already got rid of it? So are you thinking it is a timing issue? I do not know much about the engine or cam that is in it. I think it is just a plain 300 HP 350 engine so I was not sure what to set the timing at. I drove the car for several hours with stopping and starting along the way. The problem only happened after the car had set for about 30-60 minutes. if you shut the engine off and started it before 10 minutes or after several hours and the engine was cool it did not happen. I set the timing at 10 deg initial and 30 total by 3000rpm, is this tomuch for a stock 350 motor? Thanks

I'd add 8* initial and see if that helps. I read a lot of people running 18-20* initial with 36* total all in by about 3000.

Does the engine run hot? Have you checked your plugs for fouling? Could also be float levels in the carb. I'm pretty sure guys with more experience will help. good luck.

It pings after 12 initial, I have another car that I run 18 initial and it runs great. The plugs and floats are fine and it never getts hotter then 190 degs. Anyone else? Thanks

Did you remove the fuel filter with the new carb install. I had the same thing happen when I just ran the fuel line straight to the carb without any fuel filters. Not sure why but never had a problem after re-installing.

It has the edelbrock hardline with filter, it is the same fuel line anf filter that I have on my other car and have had no problems. Also I noticed when I started the car today that there was some black chacky liquid that came out of both tailpipes and plattered onto the ground? Does this mean that i am running to rich or lean?

Did you have to move the fuel line at all for the new carb setup? Possible vapor lock if too close to the exhaust. When driving it will run fine because you have gas flowing but when stop it have time to heat up. I had this and some heat tape on the fuel line took care of the problem
The black ooze sounds like a rich condition.

No, I specifically left the braided fuel line longer so I could route it away from the headers.

Hate to ask this, but I'm not familiar with that fuel filter. Is it a directional filter and it is a possiblity that its installed backwards.

Not directional and it is installed the same way that it is on my other car and that car runs great.

Are you running any type of heat spacer between the carb and manifold? It sure sounds like vapor lock to me.

No spacer
