First off, I would like to say hello, and thanks for having such a good forum.

Now for my question, I just bought a 68 3 weeks ago, it needs alot of work but I look forward to it. I was told by the previous owner that he thinks it has a junkard 307 in it with a cam. When I had the front of the car in the air today I took a peek at the engine block, where I expected to find the engine code all i saw was the numbers 350. Is this some sort of aftermarket 350 block or what. I look through the ID books and nothing remotely matched up. Can anyone tell me whats under my hood. It sure does run like a 350, I could tell you that.

Well it can not be a 307 because you have a 350 4.000" bore block (by coincidence they usually cast 350 on the side of 4.00" bore blocks) though with a 327's 3.25" stroke crank you would be displacing 327 cid. Again mere coincidence.

Let me be the first to say no matter what it is you have; you positively can not live another day without a 383 (which is a SBC 400 crank 3.75" stroke in a 350 block). I personally do not agree with any of the hoopla about the 383, but if I type fast enough I could be the first.
