Hey guys, I don't know much about this motor except that it's a sb 355 w/ tpfi, performance cam, previous owner said 300 hp. I think it's quite a bit more!! My problem is that when I'm stopped at idle the engine idle goes up and down from 700 to 1100. Any clue what it might be??

maybe some more details on exactly what you have would be helpful. I read "TPFI" which I understand as Tuned Port Fuel Injection, a system that was popular in the early 90's... is that what you have?
If that's the case, you have a computer, and your distributor won't have a conventional advance system, the computer is controling all that. Is this in the car in your sig? If so, what kind of harness and computer were used to get this to function in a 67?

Jim, yes it is in my '67. As far as what type of harness and computer it has, I'm not sure. I'm at work right now:D , but when I get home I might be able to tell you. Would it say on the computer? When I bought the car 6 monthes ago the guy gave me the reciepts for all the work he had done to it. He had the motor built (or rebuilt) brand new wiring harness and computer. By looking at the reciepts he put alot of $$ into making everything work. It was a college kid whose dad gave him the car and a credit card to have it fixed!! He had a shop do everything and then couldn't afford the gas and sold it to me. Sorry about not knowing much about the motor, I'm trying to get ahold of him to find out more. I might just call the shop he had it done at and see if they have any records with specifics. He had the work done in missouri and I'm in oregon so it might take a little bit to get some info.

Jim, I talked to the guy who did all the work on my '67 tonight at his home in Gainsville Mo. He's been rebuilding cars for 35 years. He specializes in corvettes '53 and up. He told me the computer came out of a '91 camaro. He used a stand alone harness, hope you know what that means... I don't. He customized the harness and computer for that engine. He said he replaced all the wiring through out the car to make it work. And it does work well except for the idiling problem now. He did the work 3 years ago so he was going by memory, It has a competition cam but the specs he couldn't remember. He is going to look through his records at the shop and call me tomorrow with more info hopefully. I felt pretty good when I told him I paid $10,500 for the car and he laughed and said I stole it!! The reciepts I have add up to almost $15,000 for his work alone!! The kid sold it because it wasn't fast enough for him. Plenty fast enough for what I do with it. Which is cruise around town and occasionally get on it just to hear the 3" delta flowmaster exaust roar. I'm gonna try and learn as much about the car so I can keep it strong without taking it to the shop. Ok so I got a little off subject, any idea why the idiling is going up and down? Thanks TEAM CAMARO!!
