View Full Version : Vintage Air vs Classic Auto Air systems
RJWhoKnew@yahoo.com Jun 13th, 06, 09:10 AM Can anyone provide input on "Classic Auto Air" systems vs "Vintage Air" systems. This is going in a 67 Camaro and I get the story line when I talk to both companies. 2 coils on Classic Air system vs. 1 coil on Vintage Air,
improved motor, quiter more flow on Calssic Air vs Vintage Air squirrel cage, under-dash box glued together on Vintage Air (not servacable?) vs Classic Auto box screwed together.
I'm so confused! Can anyone shed light???
Sid69Z's Jun 13th, 06, 09:39 AM Welcome to Team Camaro!!
That's the same stuff that I understand to be different. I believe in most situations the Vintage air is a little cheaper....BUT there is a member here that sells the Classic Auto Air kit for about the same price as you can get Vintage.
I will be putting Classic in my car when the time comes for the reasons you mentioned.
Do a search here on this subject and you will find some pretty good reading.
What part are you confused on??
CFunK Jun 13th, 06, 09:44 AM Yep, those are pretty much the differences.
Classic Auto Air for me when I scrape the cash together.

That is basicly why Im a ClassicAuto Air dealer and not a Vintage.
Its just a better, more thought out design.

Hey hhott71, how much would a system cost for my 67?
zdld17 Jun 13th, 06, 11:56 AM 2 more cents here,,, Because I installed the Vintage Surefit in my orginal Z. I was critized but I will provide input, I move up to West Texas and with all the dirt storms etc, you just don't roll up windows with out AC. Prior to this I had underdash Frigaking unit.
... I got mine from vendor in San Antonio and selected this brand because of the way they allowed use of my orginal lever control box. This was simple installation but I changed the way they manufactured their hoses to suit me. ( Vintage caught on to this after I complained about the issue) Its a sealed unit , has the heater core and evap core combined. Cage is not too noisy, probably not more than others. You prolly wont hear it above the flowmasters I like the outlets that fed the side vents and defrosters. One thing that I wish this application needs is the option to hook up outside air feed to the intake air. Just to bring in fresh air . Mine has been place for 3 years now and no issues. I did replace the non AC dash pad with one that had the factory louver cutout and used the FACTORY GM center outlet as I did not like their outlet. Its pretty much same as the one I installed in my Trifive.
They were going for about $1K at that time.
68DaveV Jun 13th, 06, 03:30 PM I put a Vintage Air in my '68 a couple of months ago. IMHO, I wouldn't say "surefit" is a good name for the system, but now that it is installed it's doing a good job on mid 90's days.
Joe Harrison Jun 13th, 06, 03:52 PM I have to say that looking at the two units out of the cars. My vintage air and the my buddies classic auto air, the vintage air looks like a better piece. One thing I know that is better on the vintage air is the firewall block offs. The vintage has some nice formed parts and the classic has some cheesy plastic parts with foam. This would not make a differance if your making your own plates. We don't have eiather sytem installed so I can't comment on performance. The vintage intructions, brakets and some other things look a little more well thought out to me. This is just my opinion. I almost bought classic but got vintage for about $200.00 less with options I wanted. Polished compressor, Astro dash vent balls, Orgininal A/C center vent. This is all going a 67 camaro. The price was $925 delivered.

camgene67 Jun 13th, 06, 09:00 PM I put the Vin Air surefit in my 67-Went in pretty easy and really works great in central Florida. It's been in for about 3 years and no problems.
whytry Sep 13th, 06, 12:22 PM I just got the Classic setup for my 68 with the Billet electric panel. I did not care about using the stock controls, since I don't have them anymore..... To me it makes more sense to have the casings be able to unbolt for service reasons......
Will let you know more once I get it installed....
foreverlookin Sep 13th, 06, 02:22 PM hhott71, what does one do if the original 327 68 block has been replaced with a 010 block? I know that the alternator location is opposite on the 010 block, similar to the 69 but all of the dash controls are different. I am planning to install A/C next year but an curious to what to order.
Thanks
hhott71 Sep 14th, 06, 07:16 AM the blocks are the same.
its the heads, and other accessory drive components that changed through the years.
the system is designef for short water pump, drivers side alternators.
You can use the long water pump and pss ALT set up but will be running longer hoses etc to connect to the condenser.
You can get a serpentine set up from a 90-95 4.3 truck van etc and use it.
lotsa possibilities.
tejasrs/ss Sep 14th, 06, 11:13 AM Hey hhott71, how much would a system cost for my 67?
hhott71, I'm still looking for a price quote I had asked you before. What do you think?
ProdigyCustoms Sep 14th, 06, 02:07 PM We are carrying Classic and Vintage and have both on GP now. Both have their merrits, we are selling about equal amounts. I refer the customers to the manufactures to make their own decision, then get a good price for them. Last month Classic had a price increase (about $60) , Vintage had a small increase (about $25)
