I rebuilt a saginaw power steering box off a 76 camaro from a parts yard.
It wants to leak at the cover lock nut. The lock nut on this one is not a thick one with the plastic thread locking material. I tried putting an o-ring under it and it failed and sprayed fluid all over. Now I have installed a flat rubber washer then a regular washer then the nut. but part of the rubber has come out from under the washer, I'm afraid it is going to blow out and leak. Anyone else have problems with this or any ideas for a good permanent repair.

Thanks Dave

If you have all the internal o rings in place try a copper washer, should do it for ya.

I see others have been looking at this thread so I thought I should up-date it.
After searching other threads I think my problem with the steering gear leaking at the jamb nut may be related to the relief valve in the pump. I could have possibly reinstalled the valve backwards or the relief valve may be sticking.
