Hello everyone this is my 1st post as I am a new member. I want to swap out my original chevy rearend and swap in a ford 9". I understand a 78 granada or lincon rearend is a direct bolt-in swap. Any information about this would be very helpful. I would use a 12" chevy unit but I don't know where a donor is. Price is a consideration-thats why I am looking at the 9" unit.thanks steve

steve what kind of car are you talking about? That can help guide some info. from folks. The moderator of this section might move this to Tranny and Rear End section too. :)

Thanks-I have a 1967 camaro-350/350 currently and I am in the process of swapping to a 454/turbo400 with a 9" rearend. I have the engine already and I have a chance to buy a 9" out of a 1978 Granada, which I understand is a direct bolt in. I know somebody has done this swap before so I wanted to find out the best way to attack the project.

I know the Granada rear is a direct bolt-in in an early Nova. This rear end is 2" narrower than the Camaro rear. You may have some problems with the shock mounting and may need to relocate them to the inside.

Go to the forums and click on Transmission & Driveline. Do a search for "9 inch ford" thats all you need to type in and you'll get about 2 pages worth of reading about the subject.
Good luck.

Be sure that the Granada rear end is a 9 inch. Some of them had the 8.8, which has a cover on the back like the Chevy rear end. You might need to move the spring perches. You can get the original style Camaro spring perches from Moser Engineering to replace the Ford spring perches. I guess that you already know that the bolt pattern on the Ford rear end is 5 on 4 1/2 instead of the Chevy 5 on 4 3/4, so your wheels won't bolt on.

I think that the is a bit shorter than the camaro but it is a good fit. You don't have to change the mounts to the spring perches, and I believe you can even use the lower mounts from the camaro rear end. If the shocks are in the way switch the mount plates so that the shock mounts are in board and use a after market shock mount cross member. DSE and others have them
