Which one is a better choise ???

I called comp cams and they recomended cs-270s-10 Dur @ 50 224/224, lift 468/468.

I also called crane cams and they recomened h-278-2 Dur @ 50 222/234 lift 467/494.

This is going into a 350 with 11:1 cr, 64 cc heads, performer intake and carb, th400 trans.

Thanks

Peter

With 11:1 comp, I'd go with the longer duration to bleed down some of the compression if the overlap is larger than the other.

With higher lifts, might have to change springs with Crane cam. Comp cam 270 is nice, will accept stock equipment. I installed 270 cam in a customer's ford truck, 6-cyl, ran very well.

according to comp cams the extreme energy cams are used on engines with 9 or 10:1 cr not 11:1 cr.

need to go to magnum cam with 11:1 cr or above. So they tell me, why this is im still not sure.

Thanks

The extreme energy cams are designed to build cylinder pressure...not something you need help with! If you have a true 11-1 engine, you will need a fairly long duration cam or one with wide lobe centers to help bleed off some of that cylinder pressure. Your rear end gears and convertor choice will play a big role in cam selection...any idea what you have or are going to use?

hi Travis

My rear end gears are 4.11, as for my converter i think its something like 1800 to 2000 stall. please bear with me ( Im old and Stupid ). http://www.camaros.net/forum/smile.gif

Why would you need to bleed off cylinder pressure ???

Thanks

Because of todays crappy gasoline 11/1
compression is alot, you may have to retard timing to keep detonation to a minimum which in turn will make motor a bit lazy. A 9.5/1
motor can run more timing and make as much and sometimes more power. If you plan on running pump gas that is.That is why cam grinds have changed so much.If you want to run race gas and high compression you can make serius power with high comp. engines

Thanks Mike

Thats what i thought. knock is going to be a problem, but we see how she runs with high test.

Thanks again

With that high compression u need a high lift cam which makes top end horsepower your 4.11 s are good but that torque converter is no good. You are going to need a higher stall, also usually the higher the stall the more strong they make the torque converters, if your engine has such high compression it will hopefully make a lot of horsepower with the right setup, this horsepower usually will be more then the low stall torque converter can take , i had the same stall B and M converter with a 375hp 355 and it blew up internally I had to go with a stronger higher stall torque converter and had no problem

With the gears and compression you have, I would step up to the 280 magnum or maybe even the 286 magnum...add a 2500-2800 rpm convertor and you will have a real screamer.

hehe, I have an xtreme energy 274... I'm really happy with it. except it's not in my car yet.. but it makes a really good paperweight right now..
