A friend of mine is interested in trading his Goodmark repop hood for a GM cowl hood that I have. The Goodmark is currently on his car, but I noticed that the two back edges of the hood that butt up against the cowl panel are flat rather than pointed. They leave a small gap that I've never noticed before with any other hood whether it be the SS, cowl Ind. or standard. Could it be an early repop or a possible defect? Do the newer Goodmarks have this same appearance? Thanks, Paul

Personally I wouldn't trade a good G.M. Cowl Hood for any reproduction ! ! ! Have you seen how much the G.M. hoods sale for? Then look at the price of the reproductions.

I've got a Goodmark cowl hood on my 67, and it looks just like a GM hood...can't tell the difference. Either your friend's hood is an early one, or he got a bad one. I definitely wouldn't trade a GM one for a made in China hood though simply for the feeling of having original GM sheetmetal on the car if for nothing else. Shoot, the box that my hood came in had chinese writing on it and they spelled Camaro "Camro"

This dosen't really apply to the topic, but you MUST NOT use the heavier SS hinge springs with a repo SS hood, the result will be painful to both your car and your bank account.
It must be an early hood.

Hi Guys,
Thanks for the responses. I looked at the hood again yesterday and have decided to steer clear of it. The gaps are just a bit too much for my liking. I normally wouldn't be interested in trading, but he did offer the SS hood and cash for my NOS cowl hood. I need an SS hood for my SSRS L-78 project and have found myself a bit short in the cash department lately. I sold the original years back because it needed some work and now I find myself having a hard time finding a very clean SS hood locally. I guess I'll just have to continue looking. Once again, thank you for all the responses, Paul

It sounds like the tips of his rear corners were damaged during a period of storage that the hood must have gone through. Many people are in the habit of standing a hood up against a wall and in doing so bend the rear corners. The more you move the hood once its sitting on its corners the worse the damage can get. Its allways a must to check these corners before buying a hood since its such a common habit to lean hoods against walls. Lots of people dont notice these little details in E-Bay pictures, and the sellers know it, so you shell out lots of money for a hood and shipping just to get a damaged unit.
