I haven't done much bodywork but I'm getting ready to take a look at the body, minus paint. Gotta' see what shape she's really in under that coat of blue!

What is the best way to get the paint off? Should I sand it by hand or take the body and sub frame to be blasted clean?

Thanks!

one of the quickest easiest ways is to use aircraft paint stripper. its fast and good. you can get it at your local parts store.

WARNING: be sure to wear good latex gloves cause that $hit stings if it gets on skin. beleive me i know http://www.camaros.net/forum/biggrin.gif

OUCH! Thanks.

How does that stuff go on? Brush, spray, spray bottle?

Can I do it on my driveway or will it kill the surface?

Thanks.

brush it on and follow the direction brush in one direction. Would recommend you do it in sections since after it starts to work and the paint starts to soften up any area you dont get to will dry and a second coat will have to be applied. along with the gloves make sure you have plenty of ventalation to get rid of the vapors.
I found an empty coffee can to work well to put the scrappings into since it will abll be deposed of later anyway. Happy scrapping.

As an alternative if you find very thick paint and the stripper doesn't work good a 4 1/2" grinder with coarse grit(I used 36)sanding disc will remove anything. I tried both methods and the stripper didn't suit me, carefully sanding(don't sand one spot long enough to heat/warp panels) the paint away was better for me. If all the stripper is not removed it can ruin any paint that it comes in contact with. I did end up going back over the 36 grit scratches with 80 to reduce the amount of primer/filler coats I would need. Here's how mine looked sanded down. www.chevelles.com/showroom/workgoeson1.jpg (http://www.chevelles.com/showroom/workgoeson1.jpg)
