I posted a question last week about the studs for mounting the gas tank being too long for even a deep well socket, and wanting some hints on how to get it out. I got replies varying from making a tool to cutting off the studs.

For the next person running into this problem, here's a tip: use a 9/16" distributor wrench to start the nuts until they are close enough to put a deep well on them. Worked like a charm!

Another quandry overcome!!!
It seems that most problems can be easily solved by doing just what you did. Stop, step back, ask for some help, carefully consider your options, think up some of your own and try the ones you can with the tools and abilities at your disposal. Then just as important, share the results with those who came to your aid.

I've had one of those wrenchs for too long and never thought of that use. Great feedback.

i just tackled that problem also. however, i had a deep socket that ended up fitting. borrowed it from my uncle, aint uncles great.

sounded like i had a pound of sand slushing in that tank. o well. time for new.
anybody know where i could get a plastic tank, or aluminum one?

also, how much braided line will i need? or could i just replace all the way up to the pump with rubber gas line?

Get the standard or stainless steel fuel line from NPD, Classic, or Year One. DO NOT USE RUBBER...not safe over the long run, as it will be exposed to all sorts of damaging elements. Take your tank and have it overhauled to get it clean...probably cheaper than a new one.
