I hope this isn’t a repeat question, but I’m new here and couldn’t find this documentation anywhere else.

I’m trying to do a poor mans, (and I do mean POOR), conversion on my 69 RS/SS. I read in a JL 8 thread here about some GM documentation that exists detailing how to convert a rear end into a four wheel disk rear. My question is this; where can I get my greasy little hands on that paperwork? What I am looking for specifically is any measurements or drawings of the axle flanges and e-brake brackets, so I can attempt to reproduce them.

I also have some questions about the master cylinder, hold off valve, and proportioning valve. Do I need the valves? I read some where that the hold off valve under the master cylinder is not needed, but I have not heard, or read, anything about the proportioning valve mounted on the sub-frame under the driver’s door.

I managed to get my hands on two right rear Vette brake set ups but I want to be able to use the E-brake when I park, and I especially would like the system to stop the car without swapping ends. I’ve owned this car for over twenty years and I don’t want to loose it now.

Thanks for the help!!!!

Not sure about the exact paperwork you are refering to, but there is some good information on JL8 in this book.

Thanks for the post...I have read the articles in this book and found them very informative; however I know I read somewhere else about some actual GM documentation, or directions on modifying a 12 bolt to a JL8 setup. I really need detail drawings, or dimensions for the parking brake bracket, and axle flange. I also need to find out about the brake valves, needed or not? Thanks again.

WOW, great stuff, thanks!!!

Are these drawings to scale? I need to get the dimensions of the parking brake bracket so I can attempt to recreate them. If the drawings are to scale I can figure them out.

The car currently has power disk brakes on the front and drum brakes on the rear, just as it left the factory in SS trim. It's a big block with A/C and it has both a hold off valve by the master cylinder, and a proportioning valve on the sub-frame, did you need either of those valves on your car? I found a couple of right rear Corvette caliper brackets and immediately tore the ol' 12 bolt out of the car. Now I can’t drive it until I get the brakes sorted out : (
