View Full Version : Jerry McNeish question...........
nikkisdad Jun 18th, 06, 10:21 PM I just had a friend tell me that Mr. McNeish might be brought into town to do his Camaro certification, and that I probally could get in on it while he is here. I have that 1969 L69 with 18,460 miles in original paint, and a 1968 L78 with 33,000 miles and original paint. My question is what exactly is the process he does with the cars, and is their a certification or documentation as to his opinion on the cars? I know from these threads he is considered one of the best in his field, and I really would love the chance to meet him. I would still like to bring the L89 to Carlisle and meet Shaugs and the guys, but it really is not looking good this year due to other commitments. Any one had the pleasure of having their cars looked at by him, please give me a clue what to expect, thanks...
ChevyThunder Jun 19th, 06, 01:19 AM The process is that Jerry will do up to three cars for the price ... He used to do a hand written write up and estimatin of value. When I talked to him last week about a 69 COPO I am looking at he has now told me that he has the certifications all set up on computer vs. the previous hand written form.
nikkisdad Jun 19th, 06, 01:43 AM Thank you Van. What kind of report is it? I would imagine he has a list of things he checks, including paint, interior, numbers, broadcast sheets, pop plates, and such. In your opinion how much respect does his certification carry in the Camaro community? I have only read good things, and imagine he is the best.
TDW Jun 19th, 06, 04:07 AM I just had 2 cars done by Jerry. I will list the items on the appraisal-certificate of authenticity. I type slow.
Owners name, add,phone

Drive Train Numbers
engine #
trans#
rear axel#
Documentation
Paint cond

comments...this is where he gives his opinion on the car
I would say it is well worth the cost to have his Cert with the car. There will be no questions about the car with his paperwork.
He also sends a Cert you can frame and hang on the wall.

Sounds great TDW, I will absolutely get in line for him when he comes to town! Like waiting for Santa Claus!!!!!
Sid69Z's Jun 19th, 06, 11:30 AM I've never met Jerry, but he has helped me out many times via phone/email with part #'s, date codes, price range for parts etc...
I have also had him restore a part or 2 and will have him do more in the future. I doubt the parts ever looked as good when new as they do when he gets through with them!!
I look forward to the day my Z is finished and am able to get one of his appraisals. I believe it will raise the value of a car simply because the buyer don't have to "wonder" about the authenticity.

My feeling is that you could not do better than to use JM. There may be others, but none better IMO.

nikkisdad Jun 19th, 06, 04:38 PM That is just what I wanted to hear from you guys! It seems that all I have heard is good, and who says good guys finish last?
zdld17 Jun 19th, 06, 06:23 PM Is Jerry going to Billings?
automanZ Jun 19th, 06, 07:10 PM A certification from Jerry is worth it's weight in gold. The only bad thing
is that when you find out what issues your car may have you want to get them corrected. Whether the problem is incorrect bolts or missing vinyl roof you'll be on a mission. I'm almost done!
69ss350 Jun 20th, 06, 06:31 AM If it's a Camaro.....It's gotta be Jerry.
dal777 Jun 20th, 06, 03:18 PM How much does it usually cost?
Thanks
TDW Jun 21st, 06, 10:45 AM Al...I can't say what he charges for the initial inspection now, but when mine were done a few years ago it was 400 per car. To do an updated appraisal, it is 150 per car, I think. Check his website and give him a call. He is very good about taking phone calls.
deejaygee Jun 21st, 06, 12:18 PM I had him inspect a 67Z on my behalf 5 years ago. The car was in NJ and there was no travel required because he was already scheduled to be in town to see another car. I paid $300 which I consider extremely well-spent as I used his report to negotiate a $10K reduction in the asking price!
