View Full Version : What do you think of this Paint Job?
jsabowabo Jun 19th, 06, 05:02 AM Hi everyone
I just bought this 69 Camaro SS with the intention of repainting it silver with black stripes, but the paint on it is really nice and I'd hate to throw away the paint somebody else spent alot of money on.
For me, the car is just too much green. I'm thinking some Hockey Stick stripes or possibly black Z28 stripes to contrast the green. What do you think?

BelAirBob Jun 19th, 06, 05:33 AM IMO, a repaint would be wise. For my taste, the current green is too loud. Might look better on a smaller car. Don't get me wrong, I LIKE LOUD!

jus4funn68 Jun 19th, 06, 07:12 AM I think Id try the hockey stripes before I threw the money for a new paint job at it. Stripes are cheap compared to all new paint. although green hasn't been the most desireable color for a lot of people, you can go to any cruise in and see every other camaro with red paint. I love red, but they are everywhere. jmo Kevin
tronic72 Jun 19th, 06, 07:40 AM Before repainting try black hockey stick stripes! If you have Photoshop you can get an idea how this would look.
My 2C
502prostreet Jun 19th, 06, 08:02 AM I'm like the other guys. I would put the hockey stripe on plus I would put the wheel well mouldings on,the strip of trim at the bottom of car and engine size emblems. This would help break the green up. I like Camaros with the Deluxe trim package on them. IMO
Nice car and I like the green because it is different.
kz1000ltd Jun 19th, 06, 08:08 AM I don't think I would like the hockey stick stripe on that car, I'd go with the Z/28 stripes, but that's just my opinion. For resale value, you would probably need to paint it a "Camaro" color, but if your intention is to keep it and drive it, leave it green and enjoy!!!!
69-Z11Pacer Jun 19th, 06, 08:14 AM Did you buy that from CJ in New Jersey? Looks familiar. Does the paint have pearl in it?
rmack69 Jun 19th, 06, 08:25 AM repaint it! that color is all wrong for a classic!
Everett#2390 Jun 19th, 06, 09:43 AM You could take a razor blade and carefully peel/skin the paint off, fold it nicely, vacuum bag it, and sell it ebay!
Then, all the buyer would have to do is to unfold, spray mass quantities of soap & water, and squeegee on a new paint job.
I'd stencil in some black Z/28 stripes first before razor blading.....
mbmmca Jun 19th, 06, 10:31 AM Try the black stripes and trim first. Lot less money that way.
69 merlinpro565 Jun 19th, 06, 10:45 AM Maybe do the hockey stripes as has been mentioned, and maybe paint the rear panel black, or some color you like, that would kill alot of the green in the rear!
It,s your car, so if you like it, or can live with it...leave it for now...it would be a shame to waste a good paint job...you will more than likley be the only one with that color at the car shows! Look at it this way...you have a great car...a '69 camaro!!! you cant lose! I would give it some time and see what happens. Now if people want to donate $$$ to have it repainted, then I might consider a new paint job...Enjoy it! I'll drive it for ya!
Buck Jun 19th, 06, 11:16 AM It is definately green
I'd add a set stripes like mentioned above. Pick the ones that you like best. I personally like the BB stripes. The blacking out the rear panel would probably help to. That may make it look more like a Mopar tho...
Johnny Boy Jun 19th, 06, 11:26 AM Maybe you can look into the green being kind of a base color and candy or cover the green with some thing in the green family. Then do the SS stripes, it will cover more of the color then the hocky sticks.
rojo Jun 19th, 06, 12:12 PM Black Z stripes, black rear panel, all the style trim ever offered along with bumper guards and emblems, passenger side mirror, front spoiler, some sort of front tag, either go black wall or white letter tires but not both. I guess that's about all that was mentioned above and then some. That ought to tone it down.
DOUG G Jun 19th, 06, 02:05 PM Ever thought about Yenko stripes ?
The day-glo green is a bit much for me also, but you'd never lose it in a parking lot, show, or cruise in :D
jsabowabo Jun 19th, 06, 02:29 PM Actually I did buy it from CJ in New Jersey. I just won it on ebay and It should be delivered to my house next week. Do you know any history about the car?
Venom67 Jun 19th, 06, 02:37 PM i say paint the thing Silver.. and be ready to give up the GREEN.
and i aint talking about the paintjob.
dfh68camaro Jun 19th, 06, 03:20 PM I actually like that color green. Gets your attention. You might want to try a dark green hockey stripe instead of the black hockey stripe. I think that using some darker shade of green would really work nice with the current paint color.
Good luck
GMJoe Jun 19th, 06, 03:33 PM id try z stripes in flat or semi black and as mentioned black out the tail panel and lower body below the trim line.
i came pretty close to buying a PURPLE 69 myself..........
6d7 rs Jun 19th, 06, 05:51 PM was that car around long beach island ? i think i saw it . how can you miss it??? i would consider a color change.
jsabowabo Jun 19th, 06, 07:26 PM It would be impossible to miss this car. Is probably the only 69 Camaro in existence with that color paint. The car is up in New Jersey. I'm still undecided. I think what I"ll do is wait til I get the car down here, then put on the trim/badges and either the hockey stick stripes or the Z28 stripes. I think blacking out the tail panel would look good, but it's not a big block car, might be going to far...
I'm thinking a rim change, to somthing like torque thrust II's would really help out. The Welds are just too old school for paint like that.
I think in the end I'll probably go with silver/black. the car is was originally a Rally Green X11 car, still trying to find out if it's a true SS, seller claims it is, but it's not numbers matching.
Thanks for the input, keep it coming.

jsabowabo Jun 20th, 06, 05:17 AM What software did you used to do that? That is awesome.
BonzoHansen Jun 20th, 06, 06:54 AM I don't like those wheels with the gray. But I like the green even less.

502prostreet Jun 20th, 06, 08:10 AM That's not a 69 Chevelle in that package. Look at the spoiler.

DjD Jun 20th, 06, 08:20 AM I'd put some minilite wheels on it and make it into a vintage Trans-Am replica street beast. Here's plenty of examples to give you some ideas... http://www.camaros.net/pnwcc/DjD/historics/
Maybe you could get Turtle Wax to sponsor your car... ;)
_PuNiShEr_ Jun 20th, 06, 08:57 AM That's not a 69 Chevelle in that package. Look at the spoiler.
I thought it was funny looked alot like the same green.
MARTINSR Jun 20th, 06, 11:31 PM Personally, if it is that nice, I would leave it. I like colors that people don't have to ask what it is, THAT is green, plain and simple. I don't know guy, if I had money and time to burn, ,maybe. But I like it just fine.
The best part is when you go to a show there aren't any that color. Leave it for the summer and drive the heck out of it.

jsabowabo Jun 21st, 06, 04:48 AM Thanks for all of the input. I second the rims not really looking good with that paint, or silver. I've got a new set of rally rims that came with the car that I'm going to put on. The silver definitly looks better, but it even looks pretty plain without any of the badging, trim or stripes. I think I"ll work with the green being I don't have the kind of $$$ for a new paint job.
dragon0123 Jun 21st, 06, 08:31 AM Its definatly a paint job thatll get you noticed.. !! Hey Overall its not that bad,. just a little loud.. somebody must have really liked it to paint it that color. Now although your tastes may not be the same, you still get the pleasure of driving around in a first gen camaro, with plenty of people giving you the "thumbs UP" sign. (unlike me who will be restoring mine for the next 2 years.) :(
