View Full Version : Fathers Day.... Vacation?
JimM Jun 19th, 06, 06:37 AM So last night we were eating dinner at my favorite mexican resturant when Brian (8) says "I wanna go to the smoky mountains" Wife gives me a look and I say "OK." The older one had his doubts that his parents would just pick up and go just like that. We did decide to go home first, we needed a cel phone and pc, but it only took us 40 minutes to throw 4 days worth of clothes together and we were off.
Anyone know a good condo rental near (walking distance) dowtown Gatlinburg?
JimM- checking in from somewhere south of Indy on Rt65.
BonzoHansen Jun 19th, 06, 06:38 AM I can't help, but good luck & have fun!!!
JimM Jun 19th, 06, 06:59 AM That was pretty easy...a quick web search pulled up Gatlinburg village townhouses, we've stayed there before, just up the hill from downtown on baskin creek, 4 days in a 3 br overlooking the pool for $550, they even had my info on file still and gave a heavy discount for a mid week rental of a unit that woulda sat empty.
Anyone we should visit while we're there, or on the way?
Has the car museum outside of pidgeon forged changed any in the last 4 years?
blue ss Jun 19th, 06, 08:55 AM Cool Jim I was just there in the camaro last year I stayed in the hotel ajacent to the aquarium It was great due to underground parking for my ride and on the strip dowtown Gatlinburg. They just had a quake down there last week!

rich pern Jun 19th, 06, 08:03 PM I went to the museum about a year and a half ago. Great time, I recommend it, especially as it is your day/week! Had a couple of ZL1 engines against the wall.
Stay away from the dinosaur exhibit, there is a reason they say "No Refunds After Entering Exhibit", the dino's are as fake looking as they can be,

I recommend The Alamo Steakhouse in Gatlinburg for lunch or dinner. Say hello to Anne (great waitress). Great people, great service, great food and reasonably priced.

CFunK Jun 19th, 06, 10:52 PM when Brian (8) says "I wanna go to the smoky mountains" Wife gives me a look and I say "OK."
I can hear him saying that. Kudos to the little one for motivating the 'rents on taking a trip spur of the moment.
Hope you guys don't sizzle in the heat, it's about to get REAL brutal here in ATL.
blackvi Jun 20th, 06, 12:43 AM Have a good vacation Jim!!!!!!
All good fathers deserve that!!!1
JimM Jun 23rd, 06, 08:18 PM Back at the old homestead now. We had a great time. First time in 5 trips there that we actually hiked to the top of the dome! Also saw a bear running around Cades Cove, second time only that I've seen a bear in the wild, not counting the place by Pelican lake where they feed them all the time or various wisconsin/minnesota bear dumps.
That one day was the only time I got online since last Sunday. That means I haven't read any posts in a week. I'll do what I can but no way I can get completely caught up.
If anyone has anything they want to make sure I see, post me a link here, k?
