No this is not another "tired of high gas prices" post.
I just got back from filling up my '68. My frustration is dumping gas all over the back of the car when trying to fill it.
Does anyone have a trick for using the newer gas nozzles without this happening? It doesn't seem to matter how careful I try to be.

If you can't fill the tank without spilling the gas you have to donate the car to one of the members here... :D It actually afflicts a number of folks all the time, doesn't happen at all to some of us and there are a few that it seems to be hit and miss... I think the key is filling by hand and making sure the nozzle is inserted as far in as it will go and you try to get it so the nozzles handle is vertical. I have also tried horizontal with the handle but it doesn't keep filling. Be quiet and listen for the gurgle too and that helps as you can back off some then. I also take some tension off the hose and kinda hang on the pump end so there is no pressure on the nozzle end.

i try to bring my son with me when i fill up.;) ..it takes two people..:) ..my son will pull down on the hose and keeps the lic. plate open for me (69) and i will do the rest..and i also listen for it to get close enough to stop..ALWAYS make sure before you grab that handle ..some dumb $#ss didn't leave the handle locked on!...i have had that happen also..
