To start I am a novice body guy but I have been able to accomplish quite a bit on this car with very few mistakes. I have a 68 RS that has all reproduction front sheet metal (fenders, radiator support, header, valance, grille, and head Light Buckets) I have been able to get every thing to line up after doing some man handling and massaging. But now I have run in to a problem and have no idea how to tackle it. After getting the grille installed and the front square I installed the headlights and found that they are arpox 1/2” low on both sides. I thought I could just modify the holes and move them up but to my surprise I can’t because there is about 1/4" or less between the top of the headlight bucket and the radiator support. See attached photos.

More photos avalable http://www.1968ss.com/grille/

What are my options?
1. Cut the top of the radiator support to make room to move the headlights up.
2. Cut out all the spot welds on both fenders and move the front down. But what other problems would this create?
3. 30Lb sledge and beet down the ends of the radiator support (just kidding)
4. The magical cure that you tainted folks can come up with.

I do have one more question. if you look at the photos on my WEB page can anyone see a problem or some thing I may have done wrong to cause this?

Thanks!!!

I dont have my aim book in front of me so dont laugh, but I dont remember the one headlight adjuster screw at the 12 0'clock position? I always thought it should be at 6 0'clock? Maybe you have the right and left housings backwards which would account for the vertical off-sets? Maybe? Like I said I dont have my aim book here. One way to find out is to hold the bezels up to the car and see where the headlight adjuster holes (indents) line up.

this would also mean that the doors were installed wrong from the manufacture. they only thing I have done to them is open the box and bolt them on.

Are you sure the buckets are off? Frm the pic's it looks like the doors are mounted low. Can you drill new holes for the doors? It would be less drastic than cutting the rad support.

I looked at several different vendors catalogs and they all show the same part with the same configuration.

as for the Bazel it doesn't have any indents.

I was reading some other post and I didn't know the doors are adjustable in height untill now. I will measure to the center of the head light tonight when I go home. I think I remember seeing a post that had mesurments but does anyone have measurments showing where the headlight should be in relation to the grille and fender? or should it just be centered in the opening?

The covers are adjustable but not a 1/2" adjustable.

I just checked the '67 and the buckets are installed just like yours with the adjuster in the 12 o'clock position.

Very curious...

After looking at the head light assemblies that I have and talking to Rick’s First Gen and Camaros Plus and some friends that have already gone threw the pain I am currently experiencing I have decided to make a small modification the radiator support and move the assembly up. Thanks for all your help!

FYI there is not much you can do with the head light assembly the doors are only adjustable by 1/8 or so and personaly I think the problem is with the fenders. I only wish that good mark would take all of their parts and try to bolt them all together and then have a talk with their quality control personnel.
