Well I tried to paint my friewall with a spray gun for the first time. It came out lousy. I couldn't get the paint to come out of the gun right. How much paint should be coming out? How slow should I have to move across the panels I paint? I was using POR15. I hope I can do better with the primer and topcoat. It is a cheap gun but I didn't want to ruin a good one using por15. I do have a new Sharp to use for the regular paints, but I think I was doing something wrong. The paint didn't seem to be as fine a mist as I was expecting. Also, the paint seemed to come out, then not, then come out again. It wouldn't come out at a constant rate.

Maybe your friewall had too much Crisco oil on it...... http://www.camaros.net/forum/smile.gif

Maybe your answer lies in the fact that you're using a cheap gun. There are lots of answers other than that, but that might be a good place to start.
I don't believe you will hurt your Sharpe gun spraying Por15. To the best of my knowledge, it has no abrasives in it to hurt the gun, so go ahead and use it. Just make sure you clean it properly after you do.
Move the gun fast enough not to run the paint and slow enough to get the paint wet. Keep the application even with each pass, overlapping the previous pass by 50%.

What is the proper way to clean the spray gun? I'd like to start getting some experience spraying so I can eventually do my car.

Make sure the vent hole on your gun isn't clogged, It will cause the paint no paint problem.

Well I painted the firewall with Por15 two days ago with unhappy results. I used the cheap gun to put it on. I just came in from putting the primer on it with my new sharp spray gun. Whaaaaat a difference. It's still not perfect but I need time to practice. This is my first attempt. Still need to play with pressure and paint control.

Try painting a few cardboard boxes, You may have not thinned the POR enough, and as mentioned, keep the vent hole clear, it gets clogged real easy, especially when tilting the gun to get hard to reach areas with a full can...

become a master at painting cardboard, try every setting aimaginable on your gun(s)

Good luck
