Today I looked at an engine (in parts) which the seller claims "maybe" is a 68 302 out of a Z-28 Camaro.
Well, it does not look like that but I am not sure. Here are the numbers:

Block casting: 3914678
Block stamping: CE8 33314
Head casting: 3917291, 2.02 valves in it, dated F248
Crank shaft: 4672
Pistons: 3866954, forged and domed
Intake: 3344458

When he got the engine it was allready in parts, and he doesnīt know the history. I know its a 68 factory replacement block, Flint plant. The crank seems to be a 327 one, but is that the only app. for the 4672?
What I donīt know at all are the pistons. They do look really nice, as does the whole engine.
Any thoughts? Thanks!

That's a forged 327 crank, and the intake is probably #3844459 (cast iron for AFB, used in '63-'65 300hp applications).

Might it (without the intake) be a 68 replacement L79 327/350? That would be a nice find.

Could be, especially with the forged/domed pistons - what are the raised casting numbers/symbols on the camshaft?

L-79 piston assembly has an ident. # 3871209 for std, #3850136 for .030. , BUT these #'s were superceded ALOT, and often replacement#'s were issued. The 3866954 series # would be in this same timeline for a L-79 piston.

Raised are "GM19" and "A13" , stamped he could find a "15 2".

Cam is a replacement, cast in 1973; should have at least a raised 4-digit casting number cast-in as well as the casting date and foundry pattern number you noted. GM cams are easy to identify, as each one had its own unique casting number - they didn't use the same casting to grind different cams from.
