Just ordered a tko600 and slip yoke. It will be behind the lt1 (see sig) in the '69 this year, but next year it will be with the bbc I am building for the same car. Stroker (496) at about 650hp, 600+ torque.
Question is, will the driveshaft I have done up now, fit the big block too? And what spec's would you suggest for the driveshaft? Aluminum? 3"? 4"? I will be using the offset bb engine stands and the car will see a little of the 1/4 mile strip, but 95% street cruising.

All classic chevy engines, up to and including LT1/LT4 small blacks and all big blocks, use the same motor mount pad and the same distance from the motor mount to the bellhousing face, so yes, a driveshaft made up for a LT1 will fit with big block.

Thanks Jim,
So I will have a shaft built that I will keep with the bb swap. What specs for the shaft would you rec.?

With that much power you may consider using 1350 u joints, at least 1330's if you don't have slicks. I can give you the name of a guy here in Michigan that will give you a great deal on aluminum or steel shafts with solid Spicer u-joints of your choice. I am running a TKO600 with 1330 ujoints and one of his 3.5 aluminum shafts. Email me for his contact info if you're interested.

When I got mine done, I just had the stock shaft shortened and balanced, and the front u-joint is an "adapter" type that fits the big joint on the tko yoke and the lil joint on my stock driveshaft.

I ain't pushing your kinda power either tho, and agree with Mike that this is a good opportunity to get a strong shaft built.

You might want to wait until you have your TKO installed before you make up a drive shaft or make sure you compare the two yolks. Though the driveshaft may be the same length, the yolk may be configured a little differently.
