: Front Window Weatherstripping

I installed all new weatherstripping after the car was painted. I am having trouble with the front window rubber not sealing. I have a significant amount of wind noise coming from around the front corner of the window and I can see that the window is not fitting into the fold of the W/S properly.

The problem is that I have already adjusted the windows to go as far up as they can. They won't go farther up unless I remove the limiters. I have played with the window adjustment and feel that the windows are properly positioned even though they are not sealing. I am thinking that the W/S is too thin. What brands have you guys had luck with? I think mine are soffseal.

I really don't care much for the soft seal product but they usually fit and seal well. Most of the complaints are that you have to slam the doors for a while after installation. (A sales person at Ricks 1st gen confirmed this but said it's all they sell now!)

I prefer the Metro Super Soft pieces. They seem to be far more pliable than the other guys stuff IMHO.

I have the same problem with my 69. I also used the soft seal brand. On a previous post, some one had measured the diameter of weather strip, and the soft seal was smaller than original.

I just went through this with my car. (My opinion) I found that although the Metro supersoft was a closer match to the texture and softness of the original, the Soffseal was a much better fit. On the original W/S, the sealing bead that goes flat against the glass, on the A pillar is a little larger than rest of the length. This transition happens at the mitre joint in the corner. The Soffseal is a closer match to the original in this regard. It is however, a little firmer and requires a tight fit and some time in warm weather to mould in to a leak free fit. If you look at the metal clips (two) that are on the roof rail, you will see that there is NO gap and a snug fit with the original W/S. I found that the Soffseal matched this fit almost exactly. The Metro Supersoft left a large gap between the clip and the rubber. IMO the gap looks like hell but the Supersoft looks like it will initially seal better. It's too bad Soffseal couldn't duplicate the factory W/S better. It would be a perfect replacement if they could. If you are looking at door W/S, I would go with the Metro Supersoft. It's more like the original and you don't have to slam the door to close it.

All repro weatherstripping stinks. Until someone makes the correct, latex coated weatherstripping, it will always be this way.

I'm going to have to figure out which brand I have. It may not be Soff Seal after all. I have a gap between the metal retaining tab and the weatherstip. I specifically remember that the original weatherstrip touched and conformed to the metal tab.

Sounds like I am stuck with the wind noise.

I think you will find the Soffseal stuff has the name moulded on the back at the bottom of the A pillar. If someone could tell me who the original manufacturer was, I could do some investigating. I know it's in Canada, and they still make weatherstrip for GM, but who and where? My NOS stuff I bought had Made in Canada stickers on them in the sealed boxes.

I am having a similar issue as this using trying to get the roof rail to seal at the door using the Metro Supersoft. Is Softseal the way to go to resolve this? or is there another weatherstripping that works?
