Hello all, I just purchased a 68 SS 4 speed convertable at a private auction. Car was a local car titled as an ss Camaro. Car is basket cast needinig entire resto,
Told that the car has non orig motor, car does have hockey stick stripes down both doors, BB radiator, black out of areas where the gas door isetc. Can you give me other things to look for to determine if car was BB . Measured radiator (3 core) at 23 inches. Owner that i bought from knew the car for 26 years and purchased from his friend 26 years ago.
Car has white top and custom white camaro interior door panels and seats. Car was Briitish green. Stored properly etc. Hopiing to run down protecto plate....
Any help surely appreciated

Does the heater core have the hoses comming out of the front of the box under the hood? SB came out near the valve cover, but someone could have changed that too.

Welcome to Team Camaro Tony!

Factory BB are offset to the passenger side about an inch, so one engine mount frame stand (driver side) is taller than the other for the offset. Also the trans crossmember has offset holes, and when viewed from the underside where the transmission mount bolts has one part of the cutout angled, rather than ovaled for the SB/6cyl cars.

Both of these things can be changed, but are a clue.

A BB 68 would have been an SS, so it should have the SS domed hood and SS hood springs. Again, can be added after the fact.

The alpha codes stamped into the radiator end tanks and also the radiator tag (if it has survived all these years) are more clues.

An original Munice car would have the speedo cable coming through the firewall near the distributor.

What about the rear? Should be a 12-bolt, coded around the time of the car build. Trans if original should have a partial VIN stamp.

Yes this car has the ss hocky stripes and it does have the hoses coming out of the middle of the box. I will check on the areas that you sugggested, thanks for a substantive answer. Is this considered a rare car?
