Have a question on a problem ive had a couple times with my carb. I have a Holley 750 CFM Double pumper. The carb is less than a year old. Twice in the last 2 months it seems the float on the secondaries is getting stuck open. Going down the road and all of a sudden strong gas smell and the car chokes and stalls out. Open the hood and gas is just pooring out into the secondaries. Both times i have removed the bowl, unscrewed the needle, blown on it and put it back together and works fine. The first time it happened i thought maybe a small piece of debris found its way in there and caused the problem. Now that it has happened again im not so sure. Any other suggestions on what might be causing this?

Pull it apart, check it out .. put a filter before the pump. Its old school but I went back to bronze filters on each inlet line in the carb.. They dont restrict much, unless plugging, they do their job. Keep trash out of the carb.

When I first got my car, it had a plastic in-line filter. It was doing as yours is. The filter element broke loose inside the housing and was letting trash by into the carb. It was a junk 350 and I was planning the DZ transplant any way. I now have an in-line filter and the bronze inlet filters to the carb.

What fuel pump are you running? Is the pressure too high and over-powering the needle and seat?

If you are talking to me,, I run 6 psi off a electric carter since my fuel pump cam lobe said good by on my hydra roller. Will deal with it after the Billings tour.

I will have to look into what fuel pump im running. I put on a new pump last year when i dropped the new engine in. I bought the pump that was recommended by the machine shop that did my engine. I know its not your generic run of the mill stock pump...beyond that im not sure... I will check and see. I am running a fuel filter before and after the pump...that is why im a little skeptical thats the problem.

I have used generic carter stock $25 pumps and done just as good. One more thing on the flooding or suspected sticking open needle... have you checked the floats for internal leaking? Floats will take on gas and make them heavy...

Never even thought about that. When i take the bowl off there doesnt seem to be any gas inside the float..but will look closer at it.
