I just bought a deep groove alternator pulley from classic ind. Is it the proper finish for a 396BB.

I believe the originals were silver cad. I got mine at a local swap meet for $5. It had what appeared to be GM numbers stamped on it, but it was gold cad. I think I read somewhere where GM replacements were gold cad, but I am not positive.

This is what it looks like (pic from classsic ind.). I have not even installed it yet and it has a few little dots of surface rust on it. So I am wondering, is there a coating I should put on it?

That appears to be a stamped pulley. I thought all the deep groove alternator pulleys were machined. I know my buddy's 2 owner Z, which he restored, has a machined one, which we assumed to be original. (attached to an 837 alternator)
