Hey guys went to check the coolant in my radiator and there was an oily sludge in it so i drained it out and filled it up with water and drove the car about 5to6 miles and there it is again. But the oil looks great Could it be an intake gasket or head gaskets.could you guys tell me some checks to do.thanks jeff

you can always remove 1 spark plug at a time and hope that there is no water in the cylinder heads if so then you have a cracked head or just a blown gasket. also check the thermostat for oil residual. good luck.

Do you have an auto trans? If so, the trans cooler in the radiator could be leaking.

Had the same problem with a 396 engine in my 68 Elcamino tore the engine down in the car and sent heads to machine shop and couldn't find anything wrong with them and the head gaskets looked good so I replaced all the gaskets and reassembled engine and same problem so I finally pulled the engine and sent it to machine shop and they found a pin hole in oil galley by the water jacket. Oil pressure is alot more the water pressure in an engine so it Might be some kind of crack or hole in block if not heads so oil gets in cooling system and water not in oil. It took me a lot of time and money to find out it was a bad block and wound up replacing it with a 454 anyway. That was my problem it may not be yours but it is something to think about.

As mentioned above, if you have an automatic transmission that has cooler lines routed to the radiator-start there. PLease post back and let us know if this is your set-up.

Hey guys I done a compression check on my engine and here is what I came up with #1 150 #3 155 #5 160 #7 160 #2 160 #4 165 #6 160 #8 165- they are alll with in 10% but barely.with all the plugs out I seen no signs of coolant coming out of any cylinders .I put some radiator leak seal in a while back could that be what is floating around in the radiator. The car runs absolutely great and like I said before the oil looks great.what now thanks jeff
