One thing I've noticed on the Canadian B-body cars was that the hood light was on the passenger side for big blocks, the driver's side for small blocks. I was never sure why, but thought it might be related to the position of the oil dipstick.

Could Camaros have a hood light as an option? If so, did it vary side to side for big vs small block?

Yes - the Camaro underhood lamp was RPO U26; BB & L-6 on the passenger side, SB on the driver's side.
