I just found my original ac compressor to my 68 327rs vert which has been off the car for 6 years in storage. Since it is original, can I send it out to have it rebuilt, and if so where. I also have the original POA & expansion valve, I hate the look of the replacement POA valves so I would like to see if the POA still works of if it can be repaired. I think pacecarjeff sells original style valves on ebay so I probably should just buy one. Also I'm staying with R12 and keeping the compressor original is important so any advice would be greatly appreciated

I would suggest looking into www.hemmings.com for A/C help on overhaul.

If you are not worried about date code of compressor, then your local auto parts store will sell you a rebuilt compressor, or at least they would know of a rebuilder.

The POA system worked very well when it was working correctly. I would say it probably hasn't changed in 6 years.

I'd replaced the hoses and receiver, pressure clean the condensor and evaporator.

I found a company that will rebuild my compressor, poa valve, original dryer etc.
Called Classic Auto Air in Tampa FL www.classicautoair.com
Not cheap about 275.00 to rebuild compressor only but I will maintain the originality of the system including retaining original sticker on compressor . Will also repair evaporator if needed and will convert to system to r134 if desired but I'm keeping r12.

Thought I would pass this info on and was wondering if anyone has used them before?

Classic in Tampa is very well-known in the Corvette restoration community, and does excellent work; make sure you tell them that you want the GM ceramic shaft seal, not the aftermarket carbon shaft seal.

Well while we are on the subject, just got thru re-doing the box on my big block AC. Sprucing it all up with nicer original parts but having one heck of a time finding the correct vaccuum line with CORRECT pipe comming out of the POA valve on the backside. Big block is different from small block and even though some of the guys selling new parts claim they have the one for the big block, it ain't right, not long enough. Wondering if anybody has made up their own hoses and bent new correct length pipe? I've got it all hooked up and looks great, but I still know it's not right.
